IMO, a snaffle bit means a headstall with a browband and throatlatch. I think your old headstall looks best, so maybe find something similar.

Makes no sense IMO to use something for training and then change for showing. Lots of race horses used to wear snaffle bridles without cavessons.[/QUOTE]
I don’t think it is that strange for western riders to school in a cavesson and show without. Most of the AQHA pleasure trainers I know do that.

I think I already nixed the idea. I forgot that it never took oil, so the color it was was the color that it was. The throatlatch was snug, even on the last hole, without enough room to punch another hole.
I am back to thinking that I will order from the same person that I ordered from before.
I too think that of all the pictures you posted, she looks nicest in the browband one.
I think what Raleigh’s Mom likely meant was to find something similar, in the color that you want that fits better
Brown banded headstall and a leather curb strap with a snaffle bit please! Maybe.you aren’t at risk for your bridley coming off but its the proper way to turn your horse out to show.
I agree with Froglander. You asked which style headstall looks nicest, and I definitely prefer the looks of the browband/throatlatch one! At least from the angles pictured.
(And, yes, if it has color/fit issues, then not that particular one but a similar one.)
I think this might flatter the mare:

The futurity knot brow band is more flattering (on any horse) than a plain browband, I think. It breaks up the face.
here’s the working version, reasonably priced:

I am going to be ordering a dark oil headstall to match my new saddle, and I am trying to decide which style I want to get…thicker, or thinner. This would be to show, clinic, and do lessons in.
Sydney in our thinner schooling headstall:

And the thicker one we use to show:

of these two, the thinner. The heavy one makes her head look coarse.

OK, but AQHA pleasure is nothing like dressage and aren’t those trainers concerned with headsets? Just asking.
I think of all the bridles you and the rest of us have posted, your old bridle looks the best of all. Clean, simple, flattering to your mare’s head. In dressage plain is traditional, classic, understated.

I really like it, except that my local tack shop started hot oiling a lot of their western tack. It is super greasy right now. I am hoping use and abuse will get the grease down.
Very nice!
