So happy to see California Dreamin’ doing well. One of his owners (Nancy Thomas of Millennium Farm) passed away after a long fight with cancer two weeks ago and Cal was her absolute heart pony.
WOW!!! OMG!!! BLUEGRASS SENSATION!!! Two pintos in the top ten green smalls!!! Tiny Dancer and Bluegrass sensation!!! An overo and a tobiano! I want that Bluegrass Sensation in the 16.3 hh version. hahaBluegrass Sensation
A friend of my daughter’s pinned 12th in the small greens under saddle! Yay!
Where can we find results?
I do not know a lot about cloning, but aren’t they supposed to look like the original? The clone has four white legs. Very cute baby, though.
Clones have the same DNA, but that DNA may be expressed differently so they are not really identical copies of each other. The genes are the same, but some genes may be switched on or off (some genes may be active and some inactive). The environment in the uterus of the surrogate dam has an effect on what genes are on or off. So clones are not identical copies even though their DNA is the same.
Am I understanding correctly that they have all the regular divisions, but are also additionally offering green sections for the ponies that qualified for the greens last year?
If so, that’s really cool of them to do that for the kids who otherwise would have missed out on that opportunity.
Yup, they have the usual green pony division for the ponies that did the greens this year and a 2020 Green division for the ponies that qualified for PF in the greens last year and didn’t/couldn’t get their green year reinstated. The 2020 divisions are much, much smaller than normal but it’s a really great thing for them to do for the kids that maybe couldn’t have gotten their pony requalified in the regulars this year.
I’m sorry to say I think they did not accept any entries that had been in California lately due to the EHV outbreak there, or whatever it was. At least this year, the ponies were not already on the truck on the way to Kentucky.
Between last year and this year, it has been a rough stretch to be a pony kid from California if you wanted to go to pony finals.
Oh my gosh, I love Pet Rock! Just sayin’
Those pony jumpers look like professionals after watching the Modern Pentathalon. I feel like I’m watching the Grand Prix.
Brief hijack: how ridiculous an idea is it to just lease something already qualified for Pony Finals for the week? My 14yo just wants to go once as a bucket list item. Of course she’d love to pin yet recognizes that’s unlikely on our budget. I’d rather not even drive myself nuts trying to find a suitable pony to lease for the whole year.
It’s not a ridiculous idea to lease a pony just for PF, it’s done all of the time. Ridiculously expensive, now that’s another thing. I do think it’s hard to lease a pony for PF that’s likely to place. Most are leased months ahead of times so kids can get some miles on them before PF. But it certainly happens.
It happens all the time.
There is a Facebook page called something like pony finals connections, and you could glance at the posts there to get an idea of how frequently it happens.
Look at him! Awwww. I want the 16.2 version!!! I think there is an inverse relationship between the number of hands and the number of pintos. It seems the bigger they are, the less common the different colors.
BlueGrass Sensation
The person who was division champion for the small ponies is from California, per this COTH article.
The kid is from California - the pony is from the east coast. She just started leasing it and it hasn’t been to California yet.
Yup! I got the idea from looking at that page. It’ll be expensive, for sure. When I crunch the numbers it really looks to be the most economical option in our situation. Which caught me off guard & made me worry I’m forgetting to factor in some vital detail
She wants to apply for the Gochmann grant. It would be beyond amazing if she won, of course. Not something to bet on unfortunately! I think I can manage one trip there for Hunters if I budget in advance & start putting the $ away now.
