Why are horse people so god awful?

Discussing CE is a big reason for people to visit a forum. If you took an accurate poll I bet a lot of posters have no current horse involvement at all.

Oh, yes! There is an online pissing match between two people in my breed and complaints about the AKC breed organization blackballing some breeders. I stay way, way out of it.

And please tell me why the &^*$ that means I should not be a part of the COTH forums or CE in particular???

I have already stated that I am not currently involved with horses except as a spectator or occasional assistant to my niece or BFF. Does that mean that any Tom, Dick, or Harry that has a craigslist pony in their backyard has more of a right to be here than I do??? Despite my many years of experience and knowledge???

ETA: I highly doubt Tom, Dick or Harry would find their way here in any case.

I completely disagree with your first sentence, as you have to be registered on the site to see CE. As for your second sentence, so what? Just because circumstances change in ways that preclude having horses, that doesn’t mean that we aren’t horse people until the day we die.

If you don’t like CE, stay out of it. It’s that easy.

I do not find it weird that a non-horse person using an internet search on a current topic that happens to be horse related might end up here.

(My post has nothing to do with the CE section of the forum, I sometimes forget it exists.)

Do you think that means they shouldn’t be allowed to join and/or post?

:man_shrugging:

Are you asking me?

I am not sure how my post would lead you to think that. I am fine with anyone posting on a topic here. Why would that be a problem?

(bolded mine)

I’ve spent my entire life with horses. I still own a horse, ride and compete. But I also have chronic health issues. Some days I feel as if I’m waging a battle with my body to be able to climb into the saddle. If the day should come where I can no longer safely ride, should I delete my COTH profile? Despite a lifetime of equestrian experience, am I expected to stop participating in certain discussions if I no longer own a horse?

I would like to believe you didn’t realize how your statement came across. But who knows. Maybe you meant exactly what you wrote. It seemed awfully mean spirited and ornery.

Sorry, a little hot under the collar because candyappy and ASB All Stars seem to think so.

You people are extremely over sensitive and really need to relax. Nowhere did I say you had to be a horse person to be on COTH , to own a horse or ride. Just that the animosity and hateful attitude attributed to horse people by the OP is regularly shown on CE . Especially the political side.

In fact you can find that attitude most anywhere on COTH depending on what you may write.

I think you hate CE because your posts get contradicted with facts. Instead of truth, you see hostility. You reap what you sow.

Calling people “sensitive” when they disagree with the words you typed out doesn’t really help your argument here. That’s a cop out.

Regardless, can we keep CE out of this thread? That’s a locked topic for a reason, and discussing who is or isn’t posting over there isn’t really adding to the discussion on this thread. This thread which I believe was started with the intent to cause drama but has (until now) been rather good.

I like to think that threads like this were started because someone had a crappy day and they are looking to blurt out their frustration to help them move on with life, not to cause drama.

You know what, that’s a good point. A more forgiving and optimistic view than I initially took.

I don’t usually participate in these types of conversations, nor do I visit CE. But this sentence is one that I’ve always felt causes animosity. When someone tells me to relax, I get ticked off. Just my thoughts.

On an original topic note, I went to my first dressage clinic last year. I was nervous, being an ex-jumper. Another rider said hi, came up to me and gave me a hug and said I’d do fine. Um, I’ve never been hugged before at an equestrian event. It was nice.

I absolutely agree with this. The CE section spews a lot of venom. I don’t know why there even has to be a section on a horse forum. This should be a space to get away from all that BS.

I don’t care if people have horses now or only in the past as their experiences can still be valuable. But this forum, while having improved in recent years, has been pretty nasty and volatile in many threads over the years. Supports OPs original comment in many cases.

That’s why you don’t have to visit the CE forum (I don’t). It is a place to take the discussions that spin off from other areas.

I’m with you. It’s much easier to avoid the entire CE and not have to see it mixed in with Off Topic – which is what used to happen. Now I don’t have to see it at all!

You can go into your settings and block the CE forum. That way, you never see it. It doesn’t appear when you open the forum. Poof! It’s gone.

That’s what I did because I kept getting suckered into clicking on a topic that seemed interesting and then, BAM!, the same old sniping and venomous, pointless bickering.

Best feature ever! I have been using it for a long time and I love it.
