Why are lip chains for curb bits impossible to find new?

That curb chain doesn’t have a center link for the strap to run through because it is a lip chain, not a curb chain.

I am familiar with curb chains and lip straps; I was NOT familiar with a smaller chain being used in lieu of a leather lip strap. I’m also curious if the lip chain doesn’t have the same issue as a curb chain, which is the ability to be shaken or rubbed off its fasteners? Or is the gauge of the chain so small it’s not an issue?

Want to say it is not an issue, might be wrong but the lip chain is pretty short and anchored in the middle, does not get to flopping around enough to flip loose. Not much room in those hooks where it fastens to the shanks on each side either.
