Why do I need a trainer? I can get this for free

This was ChatGBT.

Ok that is really interesting. I have never thought of using AI in that manner.

As a CPA, I am getting more and more inquiries about “tax loopholes” that clients have searched via ChatGPT or AI. So frustrating. Generally there is a lot more nuance to these “loopholes” people are sending me (income limitations, prior tax history, arms length/related party transactions) that AI can’t pick up.

My colleague re-fed a client question last week into ChatGPT. He got mostly the same answer…but followed up with “Can you source the Internal Revenue Code section?” It did. He then said “I’m sorry, I can’t find that line. Can you highlight it for me?” and it came back “Oh, I’m sorry…That isn’t in the IRC.”

I DO find it helpful for instances of “How much rice and liquid to make 2 servings of rice?”

I have a recipe it gave me for an oatmeal, yoghurt loaf, it is awesome…well the test run was, the one currently in the oven also better be, or I will starve at the bread and dip party this afternoon.

Browser extension. “Hide Google AI Overviews.”

It regularly just makes up scientific references as many lazy students have found out. And an attorney in a certain prominent court case filed a brief where ChatGPT had simply made up all the citations to law. Oops.

I would encourage everyone to research the environmental impacts of AI usage.

I work in corporate sustainability and am sadly well aware of the environmental footprint. With that said, it’s a technology that I want to understand so I don’t get left behind or have it replace my role entirely, and is one I have to use in my job.

Truthfully, I hope AI helps push alternative energy sources. I think we’re going to see more nuclear energy plants coming online to support it in the next couple years. Microsoft recently kicked off a 20 year PPA from a soon to be reactivated nuclear power plant on 3 Mile Island. Amazon has also signed several agreements for nuclear energy projects to address the growing need. My company has some new innovations around data center cooling that are going over really well.

The albeit small, hopeful side of me, hopes AI is going to essentially make renewable energy a non-negotiable to support it.

There is a data center company in France that is developing some interesting cooling options, currently testing to make their current “water” cooled DCs more efficient and utilize less energy.

Not sure if affiliated, but neat stuff either way.

I love that your company is exploring alternative resources. Unfortunately I don’t think the general public has any awareness of the impacts when they pop in and use ChatGPT or similar for fun.

The general public’s awareness on many things is pretty lacking. Sadly.

This is totally off topic but… I just watched a program on PBS that was discussing small nuclear power centers. Very interesting.

Many law firms are using AI for help with legal research. One “BIG LAW” firm recently got in trouble because the attorney who wrote a motion used AI-generated case law – which was bogus. He cited 9 cases that were “hallucinated” cases. Tsk-tsk for not verifying! They were sanctioned.

I would just like to add how nice it is that your AI instructor was so supportive and is trying to boost your confidence. I know it sounds trivial, but being told you are brave and with some fine tuning you will be better is huge.

I just got yelled at by my mom.

It takes a strong couple to work together. My mom would yell… just get off and let me show you!!

My DH has offered, but I’m not taking him up on it. haha.

ChatGPT has been programmed to compliment users and as a result some of them are developing bizarre and grandiose delusions that they are geniuses with special insight. So really your Mom is helping you out by keeping you grounded, lol.

for my sins I have my real life coach set to “don’t let me off with anything” no danger of delusions or grandeur here, I struggle with delusions of adequacy

I think I feel about this, the same as when we were first allowed to use calculators in school, they were no damn use unless you understood enough math to know if they were right or not.

I have used the AI successfully to look for recipes that combine what I actually have on hand, with what I am supposed to eat these days. Who knew that cottage cheese, oats and Greek yoghurt could be so versatile
