Why do they care what tweed we wear?

late to the party, but Wow, these are classy. Love the hat.
In a sea of bay and brown horses, I show my “white” Lusitano. So we stand out w/out bling. Now he is not a world beater, but he is a decent FEI level horse and he thinks he is hot stuff - I dont want to distract from his stage, lol.

I have a question for the dressage mavens. Would a traditional tweed hunt coat pass muster in a dressage ring, or would it be considered too distracting? The guidelines are rather subjective.

I was gifted the most beautiful tweed jacket this summer. I was thinking of wearing it in my spring outing instead of my usual AA jacket.

Picture? Not that I’m a good judge for what goes in a dressage ring, I just love a tweed and would love to see your beautiful one!

Yes! Not the best photo, I tried to crop my face out :joy: What I love about this jacket are the buttons - they have foxes on them.

Ooh, I love a good tweed. That one is lovely Beowolf.

I don’t know why, but the idea of tweed being distracting makes me laugh a bit.

Oh, I cannot possibly judge someone that’s wearing tweed. The distraction!

I’m so distracted by that person’s tweed, I cannot even ride my own horse!

I cannot see how this person is doing their test because I cannot take my eyes off of their tweed.

I’ve been looking for the perfect outfit for in-hand classes. This would be lovely.

Well, I admit that I’m so fond of tweed I might be distracted by a nice one!!

Good thing I am not/never will be a judge!

When I get home, I will tell you the brand. Someone clearly loved this jacket; it has some careful mending and also seems very well made. I got it from a friend, who was given it when the original owner became too old to hunt. She wanted it to go to someone who would “love it” so I was the lucky recipient - and I do love it! I cannot wait to wear it at one of my local hunt’s caps (when/if appropriate). I also got a rat-catcher and a very fancy formal jacket.

Me, as a judge: rings bell STOP! I have got to know where you’ve gotten your tweed from?

Yes you can wear that shirt without a jacket. There are no longer rules regarding patterns on shirts. The rules say “any color shirt”. It does not say and single color shirt. I got this info directly from Janine Malone, TD, and the “attire maven” at USDF. In her words, “you can wear plaid if you want”.
Here are the current 2023 rules. https://www.usef.org/forms-pubs/sAH3nOVD85c/dressage-attire-equipment-booklet
The linked TD training slide show is outdated.

That’s great! Thanks for providing an update.

I have actually used my stock as a sling, when I separated my shoulder. But that was at a Horse Trial, not in the hunt field.

I show in a tweed jacket. It’s very subtle but I still emailed USEF and got it in writing that it followed the rules.

That is one gorgeous jacket!

You are so lucky to live in a climate where that lovely tweed would be even vaguely tenable in the show ring!

I have a jacket very similar to this and I wear it for schooling shows. Yours is gorgeous.

What brand is that? It’s lovely!

I just ordered this for in-hand shows next summer. I have it in a cape and it’s very pretty.

Here is the brand:

The lining is a very cute horse hoof print lining. It is not a light jacket though, hahaha… Perfect for colder NE days!
