That was very well done and very, very funny.
I belong to a group for riders over 70. I don’t usually read the comments but apparently they really really get after each other. Not wearing a helmet is a big one, lots of catfighting over that.
I have commented on the discussions where people have ginned together various mounting platforms because most of the ideas involve apparatuses with open sides. I try to share my own experience of using a Rubbermaid kitchen stool as a mounting block which unfortunately ended up around my horse’s back leg one day at a show and the ensuing rodeo. I got a fair number of replies in a “my horse would never do that” vein. That gets an eye roll from me but whatever, I tried!
The most hostile replies I have ever gotten were on a general trailer/hauling page. Guy puts up really good short reels about various trailer related topics like backing up, hitching, etc. He had a good one about hitching and my comment was how the backup camera was the world’s best invention. Jeesh some of the replies I got! They basically stated I was an idiot for needing a backup camera. More eye rolls and ignoring of people with basically nothing better to do.
The internet - can’t live with it, can’t live without it!
@oldernewbie --I have often stopped being a member of a group for the very reasons you listed. The continued harping on one topic fills my FB page and is dull reading --I either agree or disagree but I have no interest in reading the same thoughts over and over. I have often wondered if some keep a “copy and paste” response handy to slap on whatever post they see offensive.
Yes, I think everyone should wear a helmet --BUT these people are adults and capable of making their own decisions.
My eye-roll is with endless posts of 1) helmet should be worn 2) no one should use X bit (or any bit for some) 3) it’s probably caused by Kissing Spine 4) it’s probably caused by ulcers 5) [insert name] had an instant connection with the (rescue, wild mustang) and trained him with her subliminal thoughts 6) After a year of treating the rescue/action horse with [insert injury or condition] at VeryExpensiveVet Center, the horse is now 100% --but never a post of how much the treatment cost.
I have undertaken FB cleaning this month --I used to allow 2-3 posts of something I didn’t like before I unjoined a group or unfollowed a friend --now it’s one and done. This AM the only things on my feed were cat posts and historical pictures. Perhaps I’ve gone too far . . .
I guess I don’t understand the need for people to chime in on someone’s post (that is clearly just a way to be happy or proud or share or brag or whatever) and give advice or criticism. There are plenty of people doing dumb stuff and putting it out there for public consumption, but unless they ask for advice about it I don’t see why anyone thinks their feedback is going to be used constructively by the OP.
It’s also amazing to me how many people don’t actually read the caption or watch the whole video and then start yelling about whatever or asking questions that are answered and so on. It’s such a depressing display of dumbness and hubris. People are so self-absorbed and self-important behind their keyboards, and I think that, more and more, social media encourages a total lack of empathy.
No I don’t think you’ve gone too far, because if you have I have to! I’m in several cat groups and most of the national forest, desert, etc pages. I’m not interested in comments unless it’s from the women’s camping forum.
Do you follow Redwoods Rising? Their social media guy Griff is a hoot! And educational.
I’ll check it out. The rangers in the badlands are pretty funny while sharing info. I think quite a few of the sites realize that putting humor into some of the news keeps it interesting for those of us with short attention spans.
Thanks for sharing the video! It’s hilarious!
People definitely get upset about safety, especially about helmets. I wear a helmet and I have to wear a safety vest, but honestly, the self righteousness is silly, and it often ruins a positive, happy environment.
If anyone wants to exchange instagram information, just send me a DM. I like meeting new horsey people. Mine is just pictures of my horse and nothing else.
I’ve seen this before and laughed just as much today as I did then. Thanks for posting this!
Okay, you can dismiss me as old fashioned, but I would be wary of posting any videos of young riders on the internet. Wouldn’t it be safer to compile the videos and show them at a year end party for all the riders? They don’t need outside validation.
