Wide Stirrups NOT Jointed

I love my Tech stirrups, I got them from Riding Warehouse during one of their sales. Comfy, stable, and come in colors! Lol. I don’t know if they might be too light for you, though.

Do. Not. Get. Freejumps!!! As someone that works in a barn, they are a pain in the A**!!! If you use their stirrup leathers the best solution is to throw them over each side of the saddle which scratches the saddle or if using regular leathers you can tie them in a knot (time consuming and annoying) or loop them on the extra part and scratch the saddle. They are the most annoying stirrups EVER! I don’t find them comfortable and actually my feet fall asleep in them when I am in them too long (hacking out/trail rides). Buy the real Jin stirrups, or maybe try American Equus (i think thats what their called?) But save you/your groom if you have one/ whoever else deals with your saddle the hassle of Freejumps.

Have you considered Jin Stirrups? I LOVE
mine!!

I have been using the Compositi for years- the bendy MDC types are too bendy for me, and made my poor, aging, injured knees and ankles sad. The widebed Compositi have a tiny amount of give- just enough to feel good, not enough to do harm.

I love them, they are cheap, and they come in lots of colors, which is fun.

I also would not recommend free-jumps, way too many people get caught up in them, and they end up dragged, the opposite of what they are supposed to do.
Im super safety conscious and researched I swear millions of them.
The operas have a habit of breaking according to my google search.
I used compositi for years but ride a bucker so decided to get something safer
I have lorenzini on the bucker, they arent light like the compositi, but not heavy like steel, somewhere in the middle like a good weight, also the shape of the footbed decreases your chances of getting caught up.
I also have 2 pairs of Jin evols that are identical but light as they are plastic.
There are the other JIN ones and the Tech sturrups too which im sure are excellent.

The FreeJumps are already ordered. I have never and probably will never buy a safety style stirrup for that aspect alone, as I believe that there is a risk of getting caught/ hung up/ drug in any stirrup. Others believe differently which is fine! I have been riding in Frakenstirrups apparently - regular width compositis with the wide aluminum Pro Jump Stirrup Treads. I feel better when I get off than I did in my MDCs but man my ankles KILL while actually riding.

I have regular leathers and freejumps. I just twist my stirrups off the leathers after I ride. They live in my grooming tote along with my horses tendon boots. I’ve never found them annoying.

That’s brilliant! I’m going to try this.

FWIW, I got the Freejumps because I needed a wide tread and wanted the safety aspect. I didn’t expect to like them much more than other stirrups, but I really feel like my leg improved in them somehow - I absolutely love them. I love the tread and how they hang. It is concerning to hear “too many” people getting caught up and dragged… @kiwichick , is that anecdotal data you’ve heard or is that documented somewhere?

I agree that the freejumps are a bit more of a pain than regular stirrups when you’re not on the horse. I just fold them over the top of my saddle…haven’t ever had them scratch my saddle.

To bluepece2’s point - I absolutely love that if I want to ride without stirrups (which I do with at least one horse every day), I can just twist off the stirrups and set them on a standard during my ride. And yes, it would be super simple to do at the end of a ride as well. They are incredibly easy to remove and put back on.

As for the “so many people getting dragged.” That is a prime example of fake news  While I’m sure that freejumps (like every other horse product) don’t have a perfect safety record, I’m a lot less worried about getting stuck in them than a regular pair of stirrups. The only safety concern I’ve heard in the many years I’ve had them, is about the freejump stirrups breaking. But I figure that goes right along with dangers of girth billets, stirrup leathers, bits, and saddles breaking…it’s always a possibility with any piece of tack.

The stirrups aren’t on my saddle, I use Jins, but on saddles being used on several sale horses a day, so removing them after every ride wouldn’t make sense. The sale horses are also mainly babies, so not many no stirrups session with those either:eek: Alas trainer is not one to buy new things just to buy new things (Don’t blame trainer) so we deal with annoying stirrups and try to protect the saddles best we can.

Freejumps! Maybe my favorite tack purchase ever.

I love the compositi stirrups. I switched to them from old fillus irons and man what a difference. They stay on my feet through hairy situations and I’ve stayed on thanks to them doing that. They have the right amount of give without being one of those annoying bendy stirrups. I have a jumper and a hunter saddle and I have the black/purple pair on the jumper saddle and the grey pair on the hunter saddle. Love them.
