Well, there are some twists and turns:
The owners of the land are claiming, no horses were shot, all accounted for and someone just started an unfounded rumor.
That there were only two dead horses and they appeared to have died some time ago. A mare and foal.
There were a lot of posts on FB, Topix etc., which have since been deleted.
The Baileys (land owners) also claim those horses are theirs and always have been. That they started “the herd” 40 years ago with just 2 horses.
I have a problem with some of these statements, simply because two years ago the community had to go to court to prevent the reclaiming company from disposing of the horses because they supposedly prevented them from doing their job.
At that time, no-one had laid claim to ownership of these horses.
Per a statement by someone with the Harlan County Humane Society (which has since been deleted) it would now be between the Baileys and the KY State Police to figure it all out.
