I am super late to the Max party. He is super cute!
When I used to work with driving Friesians, we called Arab/Friesian crosses Turbo Friesians. Max has a nice engine in that hindend of his! He is the best of both worlds!

Thanks! I had seen the Turbo Friesians in Europe being used for driving. That’s part of what gave me the confidence to try the cross. It seems to work better with a Friesian mare to an Arab stallion rather than the other way around. So far he’s better than I had hoped for and much more elegant than I expected. It’ll be fun to see how he keeps developing. He’s a little bit butt high right now but still nicely balanced.

Curiosity question: does/will he have socks or is that a trick of the light? What I’m seeing could also be baby horse color weirdness or footing, so I haven’t figured it out yet. Thanks!
No socks, that’s just the last of his foal leg hair that hasn’t shed, hair that’s normal bay-baby light
You can see in this pic that all 4 feet are black, and you can see how light that lower leg hair is
Yup, no socks. The only white he has is his star and a cluster of white hairs on his nose that doesn’t have any pink skin underneath. His legs are losing their baby camouflage in funny patches depending on where he gets dings or rubs them. Before long he’ll be all dark.
Gotcha. That’s kind of what I thought, but a couple pics made me double take.
I understand, the lighting isn’t always great and his coloring is a little bit weird right now. I would have loved socks, dad has 4, so I was hoping for more chrome, but such is breeding. He’s awesome in every other way so I’ll forgive the minimal white. Should be easier to keep clean.
In other news, Max is now a gelding! Procedure went well this morning despite him needing more sedation than planned. He’s a bit sore in the back end but he isn’t holding a grudge or moping so far. Fingers crossed that he has an uneventful healing.
Whoops, I’ve been bad about Max updates. He continues to grow, he’s now taller than the pony and completely recovered from gelding. He really likes playing with my older gelding and the feeling is mutual. I swear the older gelding starts things at least half the time even if I have no video proof.
He’s been pretty independent and is getting even more so. Mom is also more done with him some days. She’s definitely working on weaning him which is fine by me.
Here is a picture comparing sizes with mom from this morning, he’s almost 5 months old.
