The YR rode him beautifully, he looked much happier with her…sad.
I only saw him once in person with the young rider but I thought they looked very nice together and she looked like she knew what she was doing. It was disappointed that they had that fall because I always thought if Mandiba had any place in eventing at this point it would be with a talented young rider at prelim or below.
But then again, maybe that’s the problem with Mandiba, he often looks pretty good until he really doesn’t. I wish they’d let him do something else. Even if it’s just showing dressage or jumpers and schooling xc.
haven’t wewe’ve heard this all before
Didn’t Lucinda make a comment about those who, said that about George, before he won the Bs:winkgrin::winkgrin::winkgrin:?
Yes - if I recall correctly he had fallen 5 or 6 times in competition before she took the ride - and it was the reason she got the ride.
I think times have changed, however.
haven’t we heard this all before ?
Thanks Bluegal:) I believe she said, It was amazing:eek: that one bad go was/ had been blown up :winkgrin:by others to be more:sadsmile: than it was:mad:
Watching the video, the horse is blowing rhymically throughout the course. Does not seem unhappy to me.
How many falls had he actually had. One at B. What others?

Of the falls I remember, he had another fall with KOC (a corner?) in addition to the fall at B- and then he fell with his YR. So that’s 2 MR’s and the Badminton fall backwards off the mound which might have been technically a RF because he was eliminated before he fell.
That’s on top of the refusals, etc.

Given the “relationship” between ML and KOC, what ML wants, or think she wants, ML gets.[/QUOTE]

The YR completely missed multiple times either long or short, Mandiba scrambled over fences multiple times, I can’t even fathom what you guys saw that looked so much better with the YR.

blowing rhythmically has nothing to do with happiness. their respiratory system is constructed in such a manner that they inhale/exhale every canter stride. all you’re hearing is his breathing.

That’s sort of like asking for a list of plays that Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln had attended aside from Our American Cousin.
FWIW, I think ML is an excellent rider and I really like that she took up the challenge of eventing.
I was merely interested in How Many times the horse had fallen. I know he had a horrible fall. And Beowulf, I disagree.

^^^Maybe people just don’t like ML and they see what they want to see.
She is a phenomenal rider and I’d agree with the textbook ride. But that does nothing to detract from the fact that the horse doesn’t want to play. It makes me sad. He’s so fancy, and so good when he’s good. And so dangerous when he’s not.
I was there for the Burghley fall, (up bank to a corner) and it is interesting to see that these appear to be the problem for him.
I don’t usually comment on these things, but I really just don’t see an unhappy horse - or one who doesn’t want to play - on that video. Looked quite nice, actually, stop aside.
He did look happy, but he stopped at a pretty straightforward question for his experience. I think the concern is more - how many more more events will this horse have to do to prove he just isn’t really a good event horse.
He didn’t appear sulky or sullen to me. He stopped at a fairly basic question with an upper level rider and that is a problem but then he continued. For all we know, there was some distraction beyond the jump and he simply lost focus.
It didn’t appear that ML “overrode” him. I don’t know what the plan is for him but in the H/J world, many times trainers prep horses for clients by showing them a level above where the student is going to show. Was she prepping him for a client/YR?
As to the question related to “He’s not getting around with a top level rider, lets give him to an ammy” I don’t see it as odd. After all, the top level riders are asking “top level questions” and the ammy isn’t.
Watching the videos, I thought that the fence he stopped at at MD did look rather similar to the one he had a fall at Badminton.
Obviously the questions were different in difficulty, but the log portion on top of a hill/mound may have been similar enough for it to rattle his confidence.
My thought as well. Even before he got to it I noticed the similarity and then could understand the stop. It could be debated how that could have been ridden to have a success, but I don’t doubt that horsey mind was not feeling confident going up that mound.
I know that we all (or we should care) for our horses, but I guess I get a sense that with these folks that have strings or multiple rides, the horse is more the object to achieve the goal and less, even if by a few percentages, the partner that is needed to make the ride a complete success. I accept that they care for the welfare of the horses they ride, but after a while they lose the detail. Would a rider, knowing his background, knowing how bad he got hurt and how, be aware of the similarity of that fence when walking the course and ride it to give the most confident (or encouragement)? In watching her ride (and she can ride) the round I felt that she was … riding the course, not the horse.

You disagree about what? The anatomy of a horse?
That blowing is his breathing. It isnt anything else and is not a proper gauge for a horse’s willingness. Every cantering or galloping horse makes that noise regardless of happiness.
