OK, I guess I am stupid, but why can’t a gelding be a wind sucker?
I tried that on both mine that cribbed and been around many others who also tried treating for ulcers to end cribbing. No dice. Really, IMO, in most cases, it’s like me of average intelligence biting my fingernails or my friend, who is a certified genius, drumming his fingers, tapping a pencil or fooling with his glasses. We could treat ourselves for ulcers and I’d still bite my nails and he still won’t sit still. It’s a endorphine thing, not a digestive problem in most. No accident many cribbers are pretty good competition horses.
I do think turn out can help as can wet saddle blankets…like the finding a dog walker add, “a tired dog is a good dog”, get rid of excess energy as can not overfeeding and underworking. But it won’t make it all go completely away forever.
A “wind sucker” is a mare who pulls air in through her vulva. Cured by a caslick.
There are a ton of articles on cribbing and ulcers. Maybe doesn’t help 100% but it is helping many
