Winter blankets for dogs

I got mine from Schneiders. Same situation, groomed cocker and we keep the house cold. She has a sweater for indoors and a turnout for walks.

Will your guys use a heated pet bed (rated for outdoors) on the porch?

Probably not on the heated bed. They rarely are out for long under 40, usually more like 50. So it’s not like they go out in freezing temps past letting it warm up for the day. I live in Louisiana, so it rarely gets too cold here. They are just wimps. I can put up a little wind break for them next to their shelter, but one of them is seriously so dumb that he was sleeping in his water bowl last week, and then shivering as he was doing it. He has seizures and hasn’t been maintaining weight, for no reason the vet can find, refuses to come in and eat, let’s the chickens chase him away from his food outside, forgets how to use stairs… So I’m trying to keep him as warm and dry as possible since he can’t be relied on to do it himself.

Totally checking out big Dee!

Is the dog with senility symptoms a senior? Have you tested his thyroid levels?

Yes. Vet is pretty sure it’s due to the seizures over the years. He had a full blood panel done a few months back. This guy has had a tough life between seizures, almost dying after being poisoned (no idea what he got into), and he wasn’t the brightest thing to start with.

I have a few of these http://www.sstack.com/giftspet_dog-products_dog-blankets-coats/waterproof-insulated-breathable-dog-blankets/

They have held up to rough housing at the barn with the other dogs, running through the woods at camp, etc.
They do have the smooth nylon lining too.

I LOVE the waterproof, thinsulate Smartpak dog blankets

Do you know if this is an upgraded version? I bought this a few years ago and it seems like just a shell, to me. There is a black nylon liner and the outer colored shell. I doubt there is much of anything sandwiched in between. It is a great rain coat. When it is cold, I layer a fleece underneath.

I have several of the Schneiders coats for my Dobermans…both versions…the rain coat and then the insulated. Two of them I’ve had for 5 years and they’ve held up well through washing etc. The only thing I’ve had to do is replace the velcro because they get SO much use. Daily in the fall/winter/spring for my girl as she’s a blue so doesn’t have much hair

I also have a couple of the SmartPak coats…the fleece version and the raincoat one. The fleece ones they wear indoors.

The Schneiders I like better as they have the shoulder gussets and my Dobes like to run!

They have two versions…one insulated and one not. I have a couple of both.

I should have been more specific. I was asking just about Smartpaks’. And you have both so you are the perfect person to ask! Do you think your Smartpak waterproof version has insulation?

I think the Schneiders has more insulation. Plus it has the gussets. Plus it’s cheaper!!

Tough to say no to that price![/QUOTE]

Yes, those are the ones!! I love the ones I have and bought more when I added a dog or the pups grew. We live in “Aweful Oklahoma” cold/wind/thorns/prickers and the coats have held up beautifully…not a snag or loose thread and my dogs are big, HARD players who wrestle, roll and tumble a lot. The price is really good, too. Free shipping for orders over $70 (they have lots of good horse “stuff” too!!)
