The last thing I put on is a snuggly velour blanket over the top. This keeps the space blanket from sliding off during the night.
could you hot glue velcro to blanket and sleeping bag to hold the space blanket in place?
Also check REI for winter gear… the sales they have are usually a tenth of the retail cost and often the items are just either repackaged returns or items that were displayed

^^this. another warm body in the sleeping bag makes all the difference. My Aussie is a little furnace - and has no problems crawling in the bag for the night.
