Wish we had stuff like that around here, what a way to enjoy horses, of all sizes!
Growing up in the mountains we farmed with horses and mules.
At dawn we had a run to take the milk cans to the highway for the truck to pick them up.
That was down hairy mountain trails, wearing out the rubber brakes.
As kids were so proud when you were old enough to drive … the horse and wagon.
Wonderful to see some having fun driving around with their horses.
No geese or crane here yet.
Then, we were 107 yesterday, over 100 the past days.
Horses are sweating just standing there, no one has been riding in that.
Most everyone anxiously waiting for fall to set in, tired of hot.
Horses here better wait to get winter hair for a bit longer.
My Arabian mare has started shedding as of today. No plush hair yet, though. I usually start feeling a change in her coat around the last week of August/first week of September. Then she takes about 2.5 months to grow her entire winter coat (she turns into a bear eventually) and takes about two months to shed out in the spring (early March-early May). Works well for crazy four-season weather. We’re roughly around the 45th parallel, so pretty far north. At the earliest, we get flurries in October and have had snow as late as May. Some of the maple trees are starting to change color, too. I’m not ready!!!
