Womanly-sized riders, unite!

tullio

I got a Casel Equi custom made for me at the same cost as the off-the-shelf model. I got mine through Equissentials, because I love their customer service. Even when custom made to my measurements, it was too long in the back, so I sent it back, and they lopped off a little bit.

It’s similar to the Tip (flexible cells instead of a solid board), but some people think it offers a little more protection to the back because the cells are placed differently than they are on the Tip.

It does ride up a little in front, but I think anything will, because I am quite, er, well-endowed. If you want a flexible vest, it’s worth checking in to.

Got an email for “SUPER SALE”

I just got an email from www.thecollectiononlinestore.com - they are going to be at Equine Affaire, Better Living Center, 547-549 - November 8-11 - apparently they are taking the clearance and a lot of other goods - hunt coats (all RJ) are going to be $50-$100 and the second one purchased at the same time is 1/2 Off! “Robin” said that all remaining coats, from the show, will be placed in the clearance section of the website. (Like there will be anything left, at those prices). I have shopped on the website and emailed for clearance, love everything I got.

They will have shirts, etc. - marked wayyyyy downnnnnn. I have shopped with these people and if you are in the vicinity, I would visit them and tell everybody, even the “no-so-womanly-sized” ones, too.

Probably worth a trip, good show, too.

Avenue’s 3/4 sleeve and long sleeved tees are on sale at avenue.com. Like them because they also come in v-neck, which looks much better than crew neck if you’ve got bedankadanks. I have a 25% off online coupon, PT me with your email address if you want one.

Thanks to you all!

I just want to say a big thank you to all of you who post on this forum. I have now read most of it and I felt the need to join coth and reply (I think I am the fourth or fifth person to do this now!). I am glad that arete half chaps go good reviews from you guys, 'cus I now need a new pair, so I ordered the olympian ones (they are on sale for $25 but the regular heights are mostly sold out). I just started riding after a little hiatus, and I am so looking forward to fall and winter so I can buy a bunch of vests! This is such a great resource for riders looking to buy womenly sized stuff, and I wish that more manufacturers would get on board.

Welcome AuroraG.
I am glad you have found some great info. The people on this forum will tell you what does and doesn’t work. some vendors are listening, or maybe we are just finding out who wants our business.
I have found quite a few great bargains by shoppping with these posters.
Vest Alert! I just went shopping with KidEE at TJMaxx and found a cute jacket and vest made by a brand called Tweeds, they are shaped nice, and the XL fits a 16 nicely. I didn’t buy one, but might go back. they look like the clinic vests we love so much.

Anybody tried the Mountain Horse Winter Riding pants/breeches? The ones that look kind of like snow pants with a full-seat? They come up to unisex size XL, so I’m wondering how they fit those who wear larger breeches. I’m also looking at the MOuntain HOrse polar breeches, which look pretty serious (but perhaps better suited for snowmobiling??)

Just after I moved to Maine I got a pair of the Mtn Horse overpants, and they run very tight in the thigh/hips. :frowning: Waist fit, but getting them zipped to there was/is an issue for me (have not tried them this year yet.) But then I have apparantly HUGE hips and thighs for my size, because nothing ever fits. I take a Cotton Naturals 36 Shapely if that helps.

There was an ebay store that had very similar in more realistic sizes. I almost purchased at the end of the year last year. Good return policy too. It be too early yet for them to be posted there.

The only winter breeks I’ve found to actually fit me are Boinks in 2 or 3x. I have the 2 layer ones, and they are to DIE for. I LIVE in them on my days off, even if I’m not riding. I wish I had 7 pairs. Hell, I’d wear them to work if I did!

Do you have a website link for these? Someone else was telling me about them but couldn’t tell me where to find them. TIA.

http://www.boinkcatalog.com/

I have the winter Boinks that are fleece inside, smooth (stretchy) outside. I love them and need to get more. I think they are the Chilly Full Seat Boinks. Oops, I take that back – I have the Fleece Lined Full Seat Boinks, which are on the second page of the Winter Breeches section.

The double layer ones are the ones I absolutely adore. I got them on a whim, on clearance, but I’m pretty much ready to shell out full price to get another pair or two.
No long-johns needed, windproof, not too hot, but way warm enough even for the coldest temps I ride in. I can’t describe how yummy they are. Also very supportive and flattering.

I got another pair of the Boinks, the single layer fleece inside/nylony outside. They’re ok. Not as windproof, and not as warm–better probably for an Indoor type situation… BUT, they are very stretchy with little to no support, and not all that flattering. I guess you get what you pay for. :sigh:

I have to share this with you ladies who’ll “get” it. For years I have needed men’s XL or women’s WAY plus size on top and bottom. Hard to find, especially in pretty colours etc. So I have lost 69lbs (up a few this a.m., NO DAIRY at ALL apparantly!) and am into the large range of ‘normal’ sizes. I found out by accident that LL Bean’s XL fits somewhat roomy. (at least on top) SO I’m at the outlet which is right next to the grain store. I literally have been in there less than a handful of times, because in the past the women’s sizes were too small, and a crappy selection of XXL in men’s or women’s.

Wouldn’t you know it ALL the colours I wanted in T-necks and polarfleec, vests even… were in 2x and even 3x ladies??? :sigh: What is UP with that? And there were racks upon racks of mens and ladies xl, xxl, and even 3xl.

I’m not whining about the weight loss–I fight medication and medical condition every for every ounce, BUT, where were these clothes when those were the sizes I needed??? HUH???

suggestions for muck type boots

Mud season is here again and I don’t want to wear my tall boots into the pasture to catch my horse anymore.

Anyone have any suggestions for something I can wear (short or tall, doesn’t matter) around the barn, that will fit my wide calves (18 in.), that will be comfortable for the 45 minute drive to and from the barn, that has a good grip on ice, and that will withstand getting sucked into the black hole of mud in the pasture (so suede or leather wouldn’t be a good idea)…

I don’t have any experience with muck type boots but maybe they would do the trick.

I’ll change into my regular riding boots when it comes time to ride.

Thanks in advance!

Last year Target had the cutest Wellie type tall rain boots in PATTERNS!!! I have 2 pairs, and yes, I am an 18 inch calf. Much cuter than the mud boots that they have at Walmart for the men in the shoe dept. Check online at target.com, they might still have them as rain boots. I’ll look too, if I find any I’ll add the link.

here it is: http://www.target.com/gp/search/ref=in_se_pagelist/602-5815534-1905412?ie=UTF8&itemsPerPage=51&index=target&field-browse=1041790&viewID=drill-down&store=&size=51&rh=k%3Arain%20boots&field-keywords=rain%20boots&page=1

Womanly Sized Barrel Racers, Please Check In!

Are there any barrel racers on this thread? I just got a new western catalog. It was full of barrel racing saddles–sizes up to 15" (and a number were just 14"). It made me feel kinda sad … I’d fit a 15" barrel racing saddle about the way I’d fit a 16" English saddle. Doesn’t anyone make 17" barrel racing saddles?

Vesper Sparrow–
Re: muck-and-field boots–
I’d probably wear my wellies but they don’t keep my feet warm in really cold weather, and being rubber they let my feet sweat, which means a sock change as well as a boot change back in the barn! But neither muck nor mud nor water can stay me from my appointed rounds when I’m wearing them–I haven’t tried them in ice yet but they don’t slip or stick in any of the above substances.
Most of the time I wear my Wal-Mart boys’ hunting boots–come to just above my ankles, are insulated, waterproof; my feet stay warm and dry and not only can I drive my car in them, I can ride my horse in them (in our western saddle; don’t know if I’d want to ride in them in English stirrups).

thank you THANK YOU for the Tarjay link, I need new “wellies.”

You snooze you loose re: the WallyWorld Vests. Went to both up here, and the Super Wally had only brown and white and red… no pluses. Went back to the original, and only ONE XL left, only in green. No blacks. No plums.

Barrell saddles–yep, you can find them in 16 and 17. Ebay’s actually prolly the best place, but I’ve seen them elswhere. Remember they are FAR flatter and more open than a work or reining saddle… so you might take a smaller size than you think.

Has anyone tried this brand…

??

Thanks for the Target link… I need new Wellies, too. I find Wellies hard to drive in and not terrific on the ice, however. I have a bit of ice phobia: I moved up here when I was 24 but never really got used to dealing with it. I wear ice grippers for walking in the woods when it’s really icy but don’t think they’d do in the barn.
Maybe I"ll have a look on the LL Bean’s website for something wintry.
By the way, Pintopiaffe, I think it’s just amazing that you lost 79 lbs… Congrats!

Irideon Question

IMPORTANT question ladies… I searched but didn’t really find the answer…

Irideon–how do the tights compare to the Cadence Cords? Or, can you compare the tights to the Kerrits originals (with the herringbone?)

I was mere inches away from ordering another pair of the Cadence Cords–which I got in Willow for showing and I LOVE (haven’t shown, but loff the breeks) but thought I might not want to spend quite all that money if hopefully they won’t fit by Spring?

The tights are on sale at Arete… but I’m leery of anything called “tights.”

I did get a pair of Kerrits recently, and they’re ok. Not supportive, but ok.

???

(oh, and Vesper Sparrow… THANKS! It’s only 69 (and more like 65 this morning :dead:) but it’s been a battle for every blessed ounce. 30 more to go. Ultimate Goal ™ is to fit into–and look ok–in a shad by the time we are ready for one. Might just make it. )

Pinto, youre welcome for the wellies! I love mine. Much cheaper than the real thing, and with so much more personality, plus they FIT!
Congrats on the 69 lbs. I am stuck at 40 off. I have 60 more to go. (my goal.) I know it was suggested not to make this into a diet forum, so I won’t. BUT, even when I do lose that weight, I will still be womanly. I am shaped like a pear too, so there will always be a 2 size difference between top and bottom.

I call mine “the hourglass figure with all the sand at the BOTTOM!!!”

I just got my NEW Stateline Tack catalog, and there are inexpensive (under $200) shadbellies that look decent. Can’t remember what size they go up to, but I think they are Ovation, and they also have a nice piped collar dressage short coat for about $100.
just some things to keep in mind. If they are Ovation, they may be available in PLUS by special order. I can’t confirm that though.

Has anyone tried this brand…
http://stores.ebay.com/Neddys-Breeches
??[/QUOTE]

Yes, they are nice, but I have noticed some inconsistancies in the sizing, I bought 2 pairs of the same style, different colors, one fits, the other doesn’t. I bought side zips, and the zippers are on the right, like they cut the pattern wrong side down. This might not be a regular thing though, because I do have an older pair that were cut and sewn with the zipper on the left where it belongs.
I do think if they fit you, they are a good buy, even with the zippers on the wrong side, I like them for schooling.
I have 2 pairs of full seats too, and they don’t fit my shape. I have to wait a few more pounds to get them on.

fabulous quilted vests

Talbots has some quilted vests that go to 3X and have a really cool and flattering diamond quilting pattern, the downside is that they are $88… Note that the zipper pull appears to go up from the bottom as well as down from the top.
