wonky saddle nameplate huff

You just ruined my love for the fun that is the Swanky plates.
The thought of trying to get every groove and nook clean enough for a pony club inspection… eek. I would have to buy toothpicks and tooth brushes by the crate.

I promise it’s easy - take an old toothbrush, put a little bit of Brasso on it - if you don’t have Brasso, soak a tiny bit of Neverdull rag in water, and then wring it out on the toothbrush, and brush it for about one minute. Wipe dry with paper towel.

Been doing that for years on similar stuff (including on fancy bling browbands) - works great. In a pinch a little bit of tooth paste actually works really well for polishing up metal as well.

Polishing the metal is not the issue. Making sure there is not a hint of whatever you polished with or any other dirt left around the metal is the issue.

Mine’s a French Butet, but it has a name plate like hers.

Mine’s French too.

And I looked at mine again, it’s the same shape but not as shiny. My trainer has a rectangular one on his, I think I was confusing the two…

I bought a used (dressage) saddle with a standard, old-school type nameplate displaying the previous owner’s name. It fits me and my horse wonderfully, and it was in great shape and well within my saddle budget.

I took the nameplate off, thinking I would replace it with a pretty curlique one from Swanky, but the holes would still show as those round plates are not as wide as a standard name plate. But the standard name plate seem too “hunter princess” for a dressage saddle.

I still haven’t found what I am looking for, but in the meantime no dressage judges have commented on the nail holes on the cantle!

IMHO the Swanky ones are a good idea but I personally find them too big/loud (which I think makes them look cheap).

No, I get that, but the toothbrush practice takes care of the gunk for you. That’s how I prevent the build-up, anyway. You do it right after you oil/condition a saddle and it keeps it gunk free.

I realize I dropped the ball on taking a picture of the billboard name-plate… Tonight… maybe… if I remember…

Oh ![](y! For all of us with our tiaras askew, there is this:

@one1horse  Yup that’s the one my Stubben came with.
Mine is silver. I assume because saddle - Maestoso model - is black.

Well, Pfooey on the flimsy Swanky plates :frowning:

@2DogsFarm mine is silver too, as are all the fittings on my saddle (a Portos). I didn’t ask for a specific color, but I prefer silver to brass anyway so I was fine with it.

i’m a traditional rectangular kinda girl.

i just got a new-to-me saddle I have yet to put a plate on. It’s just to fit one of my horses. Toying with both our names on it. I’ll probably never get a plate for it.

Talk to saddle shop or maybe try your local Tandy Leather store. Get somebody to make you a simple leather piece large enough to cover the holes and have them mount your new logo on that piece of leather. With a couple of decorative Chicago screws you’re probably in business!

Oh, I like that idea! Tooled black leather would be subtle, but unique, on a dressage saddle. I have seen a few pictures of custom saddles with tooling on the cantle - this would be sort of the same look.

Her initials are AM, is that a different rep from yours? I bought it in November.

… I hope I didn’t pay extra for it. I’m pretty sure I would have passed! I was still kind of recovering from the financial shock of the new horse.

Now we’re talking…
