Working Equitation?

Very excited, the Cross National Camp and Cup is being held in our Province next year, it’s only 1 1/2 hours away, that’s like next door. I had planned on attending as an auditor and volunteer, thinking that my coach would want her good horse back. We chatted about it yesterday, when she said she was going to set up a FB group for the people who train at our barn, me

“Add me to he list, I will be going and volunteering and auditing”

“Why, you want to ride?”

“Well yes, but I thought you would be taking Braam”

“Why would I take your horse away like that?”

Me on verge of tears

“But he’s your horse”

Turns out that she will take one of the training horses for the camp, but the owner will probably come and show. I can use Braam for the camp, and show, and coach will take him in the higher levels. One of the joys of being at the local WE training facility is that we have regular WE lessons, and fun days, where people haul in, so we are hoping to field two teams in the competition.

I guess the next 9 months will be about getting fitter, healthier and lots of practice!

We are very lucky to have a full set of WE obstacles at our barn, there are usually one or two set up to play with. Having said that they were all packed away 3 weeks ago, and all lessons seem to have been flatwork only.

We were a little bemused yesterday when we find this in the arena

A bunch of pylons laid out, with numbers propped up by them. My first guess was Driving course for the minies WRONG,

First task ride around and find all the numbers and guess what obstacles the pylons represented…as you can see 9 is a rectangle, bell corridor, but from the other direction it was the bridge. We had to ride the course, complete all the imaginary obstacles in good form, it was quite the challange, navigation AND remembering what obstacle it was supposed to be. When the horse doesn’t have a clue you are opening the gate, for instance, it’s hard to ride it.

We survived, and actually had some great fun.

Last month was our first clinic and schooling show of the year, and it was good and bad.

Good, top mark in dressage, fastest time in the speed round, top marks overall, BUT, didn’t win because I got eliminated in the Ease of Handling  It’s a shame because we would of won that as well, apart from the small issue of using the wrong hand to move the Switch Cup, I knew it as soon as I did it, but too late…agghhhh. So I made some adjustments to an old pair of gloves

Maybe I won’t mess that one up again, but I wouldn’t put money on it! Overall more to be happy with than to be down on, upwards and onwards.
