"Wow, they do that now?" -- Surprises after a long absence

What was the whole deal with aefvue farm? I remember it being chaos, but I don’t remember what it was all about!

Where are you finding boots that lats 5 years?!? I’m lucky if I can get over a year with most of my boot zippers - several brands.

I don’t buy Ariats anymore! Then I was getting 18 months!

I dunno. Erin and some of the ppl that posted on sport horse breeders forum were at odds over the no advertising policy?

I’ve often thought that ppl who are involved in animals and their breeding are not really doing it from a purely business perspective. It’s a labor of love and they take it personally. My MIL (and FIL too, he enabled all this) has a freaking menagerie that are going to put her into the poorhouse, not something that can be discussed but we sure have to listen to her complain.

uh… either there are two couples like this, or we had the same ones…

Did they leave and move to Vegas? Because… um… that sounds very, very familiar…

Nope. They stayed in Jersey. I Googled them. The wife eventually died and he remarried. Not one, but two women married this twit.

omg these two were from Jersey as well.

He passed a few years ago, and I haven’t really heard from her since.

We did really like them, they were just… very… quirky.

It’s kind of amazing how many creepy men will find multiple women who are willing to marry them. Especially in the horse business.

Or maybe it happens everywhere, but I only see the ones in the horse business.

How is it that fake tails are OK for shows? I’m not criticizing. And why hadn’t anyone taken it to the next level — a pre-plaited fake tail. It could be kind of a sleeve that you discreetly tie on. Hmmm. HMMM…

Also, when did better-for-the-knees sturrups arrive and does anyone believe they make a difference?

Those have been around for quite a while, and I do think they are more comfortable for many people.

However, one thing to bear in mind is that because they have some give to them, you might not feel quite as secure in them. I had a big mishap one time with a horse that took off bucking, and when I went to shove my heel down, I felt like the stirrup had a little play in it. I don’t think I’ve used those stirrups since that day. Lol.

The right setup can definitely help! I think MHM is talking about jointed stirrups but there are a lot of other options. Some are expensive and different people have different preferences so it’s worth borrowing if you can.

I find those jointed stirrups very disconcerting. But I do like the ones with the 90 degree offset eye. They make a significant difference to my knees and hips. And apparently the ones with wider footbeds are really good if you get achy feet from old injuries.

I gave my jointed stirrups away to a new loving home  I love the wide footbeds, however!

Many years ago (at least on the west coast) there was a plastic wrap around thing that you could snap or velcro in place so that from a distance, theoretically, your horse’s tail would appear to be braided. I never tried one, but know people who did and oh, the horror if the horse rubbed its tail while it was in place!

Oh my! I’d love to see a picture of that (the device). I am intrigued!

Ditto!

I had one!!! It looked like a French braid that one wrapped around the tail and velcroed the underside. It didn’t work at all…at least, for me.

I always said that if I could figure out how to create a braided mane accessory that could be [glued? Velcroed?] onto a roached mane and re-used over and over again then I would die a millionaire. The amount of money spent in a year of showing for professional braids is more than some people pay for a year of college tuition.

I remember these pre-braided tail items. Miller’s sold them. I don’t think anyone was smart enough to try to braid it into place - just velcro’d it on, and it wasn’t that great - slipped about too easily.

They glue on braids for hackney ponies especially the younger ones. I couldn’t imagine trying to braid the little lunatics.
