WWYD Neighbors think I'm running a petting zoo

We have some golf cart horse treaters too.
However, I went the opposite direction…

I walked out with a big smile on my face and talked to them.
I told them all about my resident equines.
I asked them to limit their treats to two carrots each per day and how to throw them far apart so each equine gets some without argument.
I also stressed the danger to their fingers and that they should never ever go into the pasture.

Gee, I have a drivers license. How about I take your [Lamborghini, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Bentley] out for a spin. Ya know, I’m entitled to, it’s just sitting there.

If I could figure out how I would plant poison oak and Ivy at this point.[/QUOTE]

Just say the word and I’ll mail you about a thousand poison ivy seedlings—I’ve been digging the stuff out for months, to no avail!

Clearly you need a faster golf cart, with a dash cam so we can all experience the excitement of neighborhood drama culminating in a high speed golf cart chase.

Either that or keep a horse saddled and have a helmet cam. A golf cart is probably doing < 20mph. You can make up that 600 foot head-start in no time.

Could it possibly be they were just getting ready to leave and never saw your daughter approaching?

If not, I can help you out

Along with outside hot wire and no tresspassing signs, add 1 that says

SMILE! YOUR ON GAME CAM

bet they don’t return…

This is so nice of you and you would have made my entire life when I was a horse crazy kid with limited access to horses, but as an adult I would be so worried about liability, i.e. if/when one of them gets bitten or kicked and sues. “She TOLD us we could feed them! She never said they were VICIOUS!”

Nope nope nope. Not worth it. Don’t attractive nuisance laws vary by state? I would put up whatever signage is recommended for your state and maybe also post something about how the property is under electronic surveillance?

If they didn’t peace out when your daughter tried to approach them I’d recommend going the friendly, “We do not allow anyone to interact with the horses in the pasture. Would you like to schedule a time to bring your kids and meet with them?” route but it sounds like they already know that they shouldn’t be trespassing. They may be less motivated to do it if they think their risk of being caught is substantially increased.

See now?
The scurrying away when they spotted DD would rile me enough so I’d want to get a pic & then post that pic with my No Trespassing - This Means YOU signs.
And a copy of the pic would do nicely if you need to bring in police to make them obey the signage.

LOL!
Murphy’s (Equine) Law:
Any toxic planting will wend its way into your pasture & establish a home base.
Horses may be immune, but you will most certainly step in whatever & suffer the consequences.

ROFL! I would love to see that chase on You Tube!

We don’t have a golf cart but my daughter was in her car. She saw which way they went it’s now down to two families or possibly 3 as one family seems to have kids that keep coming back to live with their kids in tow. The old 3 generations under one roof

Well, I figured that if I tell them they can’t feed the horses a couple of carrots then I am the mean neighbor lady. Right now, I am the nice neighbor lady, and I get help from many of my neighbors in return…garden vegetables, eyes on my property, no flack from loose equines turfing their lawn :uhoh:, inside scoop on who did what, etc.

My equines are not going to keel over from 2 carrots a day and based on my observations out my window, they are following my instructions on tossing the carrots rather than hand feeding them.

But, based on this thread, I guess I live in a different neighborhood than most COTHers!

In fact, I have been known to let all the neighbors touch my ass on occasion  https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/t31.0-8/966180_10200484881182159_2136642015_o.jpg

I agree with Sparky. I had my horses at one time at a cooperative barn that was in a relatively densely populated area.

I was told by the owner of the property that she once saw a father put his kid up on my YEARLING colt. Good thing colt was a pretty mellow boy.

Another time I saw a little girl feeding oreos to one of my mares. I said, “They don’t eat oreos,” to which the little girl replied: “This one does. I feed her oreos every day.”

Sheesh. People.

Just assume the worst case scenario can happen and do what you need to do to protect yourself.

Hmmm…post your NO TRESPASSING signs and hot fencing and if they appear again, call the cops and then confront them. If they take off (I assume you mean in a car), I’d tail them if I could and get a license plate number to give the cops.

I don’t see a pool in someone’s backyard and go dangle my feet in the water…its the same thing - its trespassing and I’d have no problem at all involving the police.

Me too, I would not have been able to touch (nevermind ride) horses when I was young if there were not people like Paddys Mom.

If not, the other option is that they KNOW that what they are doing is wrong and they are doing it anyway. Which means your only option is a huge electric fence, no warnings.

It’s a golf cart. There are several in the neighborhood. For people who want to enjoy the fresh air but not risk getting any exercise while doing so.
