WWYD Neighbors think I'm running a petting zoo

Hopefully there won’t be a next time. But if there is, perhaps your daughter can follow them and ask them to stop feeding your horses. Or follow them at a distance and find out where they live. The fact that they took off when they saw DD speaks volumes. Ugh.

Sorry you are going through this.

I hope it works out. We have electric fences up but most of our neighbors have horse neighbors and are respectful. One lady even bakes our horses carrot treats and gives them to US to give to the horses.

So when I saw they were having a bbq with young kids, I whipped out the pony and offered pony rides. Boy was that a hit.

Perhaps if you do the right out reach, you can get beyond their ignorance. In the end though, do what makes YOU comfortable.

When I was ten, my best friend and I walked past a horse property every day. We knew NOTHING about horses and thought they were poor neglected beasts. So we snuck them grass and carrots. Looking back I realize of course they weren’t, but when that lady ran out ripping our heads off it didn’t help. To this day I wish she had calmly explained to us the situation.

I don’t blame her, but I tried to learn from it and it has done me well.

Well daughter gave me more details this evening. The parties involved are 3 adults and one boy. She did actually pass the golf cart and the driver turned his head away from her to avoid eye contact as she passed and did the same when her boyfriend came with his jeep right behind her. So it’s pretty obvious they know what they are doing is wrong. It’s not a bunch of horse crazy kids but mostly adults.

We put sign up all along the fence “Please don’t feed or touch the horses, Thank you”. The fighting the horses do infront of them is very obvious but they don’t move when that happens. (Entertainment for them perhaps?)

So If the signs don’t work it’s going to be a nice cattle grade electric fence with a high voltage sign on the road side of the three board fence.

Thank you everyone for your support on this.

Second worst was when I had my doorbell ring and opened my door to a mother and her two young daughters in rubber boots and bike helemets, expecting to ride.
The kicker was when I told her ‘no’ politlely SHE got annoyed (and expressed it) by telling me that, ‘well we came out here and my girls have thier helemets and riding boots on!’
Had the exact same thing happen to me years and years ago. Only mine was a mother with her daughter who was telling me that her daughter knew how to ride.
She got very quiet when I explained that I knew how to drive and could I drive her her car. She drove up in a new model luxury car and I drove a beater at the time (we all have priorities hers was nice cars mine was nice horses).

A story I’ve told before about entitled, delusional people. An acquaintance and her husband bought a house that had a pool. They just were moving in, and the doorbell rang. Two very little girls, in very tiny swimsuits (think almost thong suits) were on the doorstep, announcing they had come over to swim. The woman was horrified at the little kids running around alone, approaching strangers, and assumed the girls’ parents didn’t know they were there. She went to their home, and the mother said she knew where they were, that they swam in the pool all of the time (the house had been empty for a while, and the pool was nasty) without the parents. When the homeowner asked the woman why she sent two little kids to a strangers’ house, the woman said everyone around there was nice, and it wasn’t a problem. When the lady asked her how she knew the new homeowners weren’t sex offenders, or other criminals, the mother said that no one like that lived there. The new homeowner went home, locked the gate, and when they found out the shape the pool was in, they filled it in. She said the girls wandered the neighborhood all of the time alone, so it’s not just horses that attract trespassers.

Ugh. My least favorite part of farm ownership.

If I had a nickel for every time I had to intervene with clueless parents, I’d not have to work ever again. And, me being me and in a position to do so, I would do the same for the neighbors. Since none of my paddocks/pastures fronted on the street, I had fewer issues than the neighbors, but I did have my share; usually from poorly supervised siblings/friends of my younger students. Blecchh.

Your plan for electric fencing outside your pasture fencing is sound, but in your shoes, I would check with your insurance carrier and make sure of the proper signage to post. The wrong wording could land you in legal hot water.

Along with outside hot wire and no tresspassing signs, add 1 that says

SMILE! YOUR ON GAME CAM

bet they don’t return…
This might be useful, but please spell it You’re not Your.
Also, if you have not already notified the police about the trespass and disturbing your property, contact them right away.

So true!

I have been cleaning out old vendor binders here at work. I have found an old 5 1/4" floppy disk. All the younger crowd had never seen one.
Heck, some of them do not even know what the pound key is on their phone, since it has been renamed and all.

#poundsign

Ask a kid. It is now a Hashtag, which I can NOT figure out as a meaning label to use in the first place!!

Snork! Sad to say, you may be right!

I did this one a long time ago:

If anyone prefers that wording, I can make it up as a lawn sign.
