Xray prices

Just pointing out for those that are responding to the first post, this thread started over 8 years ago, and was just recently bumped up by someone with a new question.

Hi. I had my gelding’s neck and spine x-rayed & ultrasounded last fall, it was about $250 all told, but then it was about $100 additional for sedation, and there was a farm call. From the sound of things though, my vet might be less expensive than other practices from reading this thread… I am in an area where it is super sport-horse central if that matters.

I know it seems expensive but it is worth it to get the whole picture, if you can. Ask your vet if they’d accept a payment plan like $100 a month. I was able to do it with my vets for an unrelated injury that was sudden and quite catastrophic.

$100 for sedation? I think as long as I have horses I better live right here where I do. I just paid $15 for sedation. Last yr nine xrays cost me $125.

In my vet’s defense it was about a three hour ordeal and also multiple shots of sedation. My gelding is big and a bit of a heavyweight. They sedated him twice for ultrasound once for the xray once he was already sobering up, and then gave him more sedation to clean one of his puncture wounds. I think dorm is usually about $15 but IRRC they brought out torb as well. I should look at the bill but it was 100% reasonable he saw a lot of sedation that day.

Once we switched to a digital system we started charging by the study rather than the shot. Each study is $175 and includes all views of the site. One study would include all views of both hocks, for example.

I really like that approach. Simplifies things immensely.
