Xxterra vs Sarcoid - the continuing battle

Wanted to update now that I got my bill…the freezing itself was only $100…way less than I expected, so not bad at all.

Looks like he will have to have it done myself, but for that price, def something I would consider trying if nothing else works.

keep us informed on the status of the sarcoid.

I recently removed a small sarcoid with xterra, (I had used it before and it worked wonderfully), this one is not healing, and is larger …looks like proud flesh etc. Should I do it again, it has been about 6 weeks.

I have two geldings with sarcoids. First one, my black gelding had a double threaded sarcoid(had it biopsied and sent out to tumor marked and graded), we removed it surgically and put him and kept him Cimetidine 500 mg daily. No return. Second gelding, bay paint, responded moderately to Cimetidine, so we did two cycles of Immuno Suppressant shot. I opted for the shot versus topical due to him being out on pasture board. The shot worked like a charm but was very pricey. I paid 500.00 in total for the treatment. The issue with this treatment is getting the root of the sarcoid. The shot destroys it and it does not come back. I had bought the vial, and if a third shot was required I had it on hand if needed. I strongly recommend the shot, can’t recall the full name but it was a lifesaver.

That is a rather high price for a freezing. Are you in an area to shop around?

In my experience, freezing, banding, and blade removal can make them really angry if they cannot get all the margins. I had a mare with golf ball sized protruding sarcoids on her neck, chest and ears. They were proud flesh looking and very irritated when I got her. We opted to laser them off. The laser cauterized the area so no sutures required. I was not expecting the results we had AT ALL. We are two years in now and she hasn’t had a single one grow back. Granted at the time my vet had just gotten the new laser and had never done something like that so I got a special deal and we did the whole thing for the cost of the block and tranq. I would 100% do that again if they grew back now.
