It’s okay…
Being biased is fine. It’s all about the proven, older guys that need no introduction…
Don Alfredo
I have a really fancy colt by him this year and every day he makes me wish he was a filly Mare would not settle back to DA this year so my hopes for a full sibling (filly!) went down the drain…

There is a reason I started this thread.
Listen up! These sires are PROVEN and sire get that go on and WIN.
FORGET the “flavor of the week” and USE THESE GUYS BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE.
^^^^This, this and THIS!!! Where is the “LOVE” button? One of the advantages of breeding to an older stallion is that chances are he has lots of offspring to show what he produces, what he improves and his strengths in the breeding shed.
Ironman…maybe for 2012! My TB mare has been telling me that she likes him for aprox 10 years now. They are both up there - an Ironman filly would be the icing on the cake!
Thought of two more - Donnerschlag is 23 y/o this year, and Riverman is 21.

Connemara Stallions on my list of (20+ years old) Need To Be Used Before They Die:
*Grange Finch (3/4th brother to *Grange Finn Sparrow)
*Canal Laurinston
Maplehurst Michael MacDaire (in Canada)
Greystone Tiger O’Toole has some lovely old lines and hasn’t been used much sadly
I have one mare that I refer to as my “outside stallions” mare because her lines are too close to my older stallion and she’s the dam of my junior stallion. Luckily she can cross with pretty much every stallion I’m interested in and I have her breeding career planned out for the next five years (shhh don’t tell my mother ). She makes the most fabulous babies and is a real broodmare’s broodmare.
(She just needs to start giving me some fillies!)
I hope more people use *Grange Finch too! Although, he’s not 20 yet . Which is great because hopefully he has years and years left!
Okay in the 20+ group lol
PF Phar Lap (hubba hubba)
VF Premonition
SS Orion
Exodus I
Adoradio
Granizar
(i don’t know if some are still publicly standing though… last i heard they were, but things can change overnight).
Coconut Grove - he’s 24
also admittedly biased…
Frohwind @ 27
Art Deco!! Is he still breeding?
French Seventyfive (TB)–last known TB stallion tail-male to Ambiorix in North America. At 24, still successfully breeding in Kansas. We have two mares in foal to him for 2012, also a yearling filly by him that we’re very pleased with.
Off topic–I’m new here, after years of lurking. Hi everyone!

Fabulous. I couldn’t remember if he was 20 or not so I put him on the list anyway. Seems like a lot of the good older stallions are near to 20.
Depending on how much I like my mares foal for 2012 I may either rebreed her back to the stallion she’s in foal to or try with *Grange Finch.
Two of my personal favorites that I have used:
Special Memories (Abdullah x Kluwall xx) 25 years old, I think. VASTLY underused in this country, IMHO.
Mezcalero, 24 years old
Both are still standing at stud as far as I know.

Kadence : Pure Polish Bask son, is 32 this year I believe. He’s pretty cool.
I’m putting 30 as my base age, bc 20… well way to many arabians are still producing at that age to list lol.
Ain’t that the truth! My very first horse was an Arabian, a 1971 model. I just put him down in 2006 because he had almost no teeth left and wasn’t able to eat really well. He was never lame a day in his life and never once was he sick.
I also love Frohwind. Such a well-aged gentleman.
Parabol - 1983!
He is retired, but they have frozen available. He is such a nice boy and so sweet! I know a few people that had great success breeding their mares to him.
Agree completely with:
Don Alfredo for the hunters
Mezcalero for the jumpers
They have stood the test of time and have been prepotent for the very qualities they were bred for, with a wide variety of mares. Bravo to those fine gentlemen and their connections.
Completely & utterly biased & know I might be the only one who thinks this way, but . . .
Canadian Kid at 21.
If he was plain brown, he still would have the conformation, bone, & temperament that I want. And I am proud to add his chestnut daughters to my herd.

Just wondering if anyone has a link to the farm where Grange Finch stands?
(thanks!)
Eye in the Sky, you and I think alike! Parabol (Mr. P) is my absolute favorite stallion. Superb athlete. Best temperament. Hands-down. And gorgeous!
Gold Luck is another favorite of mine, hence why I bought a daughter!
