You Know You're Over the Hill When ... :(

Thank you!

So achy here that my stomach protested too much Advil. I don’t tolerate Aleve. Happily, I have a prescription for Celebrex. I need one most days. On bad days I layer Advil on top.

You know you are old and creaky when you start a new medication and the doctor asks if you have any of the aches that are known side effects - and you are not sure because you always have aches. They could be worse, could be just the suggestion… Soldiering on!

Hmmm … I will research Celebrex. Next doc appointment is next month; I will put it on my list of things to talk about. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks again. She loved it!

Hmmm I wonder. My doc Rxed cyclobenzaprine and I don’t really feel that it helps, and in fact I haven’t refilled my Rx in quite a long time now that I think about it… Maybe something like this would be better. I have I guess “moderate” cervical facet syndrome, plus arthritis midback from a T12 fracture that has spread to other vertebrae now. I have pretty horrible migraines that sometimes Rx meds don’t come close to helping, which has been a new and distressing trend. I also cannot take Aleve, I joke that just opening a bottle gives me an ulcer but it isn’t far off.

Happy to bring laughter!

What OTC migraine meds have you tried? Years ago the only thing that helped my BIL’s was Excedrin. I know there is a lot more out there now, including the Tylenol-aspirin-caffeine blend tablets.

The Celebrex helps a good bit. Lots of arthritis including cervical, some bulging discs in lower back producing sciatica etc etc. Voltaren gel is a comforting add on.
Celebrex doesnt upset my stomach!

Excedrin migraine is exactly that, aspirin/acetaminophen/caffeine. Same as Midol actually . I’ve tried all the OTCs. I am on two daily Rx meds now for prevention and a triptan for acute cases, plus an anti-nausea med that acts as a sedative as well so I don’t care as much that my head hurts, plus a strong sports cream with CBD for my neck that seems to help just as much as the Rx triptan. With the daily meds, I can generally head one off with high-dose ibuprofen (which is generally a no-no because of rebound migraine) and lots of caffeine, which leads me to believe that my migraines are probably 70 percent neck issues. The other 30 percent is a genetic gift, I’ve had them since I was six.

Aw man, I’ve got my car Advil, my bedroom Advil, my kitchen Advil, my backpack Advil, my work Advil and my barn Advil…

Gotta be prepared, you know!

Hahaahahahahaha!

Also, “Pre-gaming” for a concert now means something very different from when I was in college… (Advil, and a nap and a snack!)

@TheJenners I had several medical doctors give up on me, and my migraines.

I still get migraines but they are not an ‘If only I were dead, then it wouldn’t hurt this much’ affair anymore. They’re pretty much a cup of coffee and some Tylenol thing now.

There are a lot of alternative care practitioners that I wouldn’t let anywhere near me.

But… I found a unicorn, very talented chiropractor/regenerative medicine doctor when our sort-of-neighbor/friend/fellow cattle rancher introduced me to his cousin from the Seattle area.

He (the chiropractor) is the reason that I can work, and ride, and be functional, and enjoy my life now.

He’s maybe a 45 minutes drive from you, assuming you don’t have commute and ferry traffic to contend with.

I’d be curious, feel free to PM.

I’m officially approaching The Hill’s crest. I have been holding things a bit further away to read them for a while and finally caved and bought the lowest strength reading glasses.

What made me give in? The fact that I could no longer see my horse’s teeny tiny new growth eyelashes when I was close enough to use tweezers on them. (I also bought new tweezers after using my Swiss army knife tweezers for years, and WHY didn’t I buy proper cosmetic tweezers years ago? So much better!)

Oh yeah.
Glad you got some.

Wait, you are plucking horse eyelashes?

Yes. He scratched his cornea and these particular eyelashes were rubbing on the scratch, which prevented healing and made it worse at one point. He seems to do this at least once a year so the eyelash tweezing is no biggie by this point. He doesn’t like it, but is cooperative enough that I don’t even need anyone to hold his head steady while I have one hand holding the eyelid in position and the other hand working the tweezers.

This is the consequence of a poor decision on my part made 24 years ago.

In my case, replace “Advil” with “cheater eyeglasses”. A pair here, a pair there… I’ve got a pair that are a bit weaker for computer use, even weaker ones for reading music for my flute or ukulele. My barn bag pair got lost and needs to be replaced.

I’ve given up having nice fingernails because my fingers are bulging and mishapen; I’d rather not draw attention to them.

Eyebrows----mine used to be so thick that I was tweezing all the time. Now, I leave stray hairs hoping they’ll grow long enough to fill in the thin spots. And I’m leaving the gray ones because I need something in those spaces.

I keep telling myself my grey eyebrow hairs add dignity. :upside_down_face:
I used to keep my fingernails short for guitar-playing but I haven’t touched my guitar in probably a year now. I still keep my nails short though because they grow unevenly and and at different rates.

and I tell myself that my grey hair simply is adding some glitter and highlights naturally.

Definitely relate!

I call them “sparkles”. A few people have asked if I highlight my hair to look like this (it’s a buzzcut, very thick so lots of layers). As if I would choose gray for the highlight color.
