Aw, that was hilarious! The mental picture…
You’re not! We had a trainer from a state that doesn’t get snow out doing a clinic. He was sitting on someone’s youngster when the snow came off the roof, and we suddenly realized we’d forgotten to warn him about that little thing! My horse didn’t care, he just kept working through the avalanche of doom. He got extra cookies. But me? I still spook at it.
So I had this TB mare who was a wild thing the first few months I owned her, but to be fair, it was in Golden Gate Park, a pretty scary place to ride a green horse. But she got over it and became super reliable. Some years later, I was boarding at another facility with an indoor. Not snow, but in a driving rainstorm, and a gutter peeled off the side of the arena. I had just finished working her and was cooling out, feet out of the stirrups, long rein (because she was such a steady girl by then). OMG, did she PLANT me!! Then she stood there giving me the “what are you doing down there?” look. My head didn’t hit the ground because I had managed to twist my shoulder and roll, but every muscle in my back and arms ached for days (even after a nice hot soak).
Same here. I have so many layers of polar fleece under my helmet that I have to pull it back away from my ears when someone wants to talk to me.
I’m so much spookier than my mare, lol! And happy that it’s that way.
I’ve got a 23 yr old keeping my horse fit for me. She said the snow sliding off the roof last week was “Fun”, but she got my horse to focus during his ride.
Point: There is NOTHING fun about how my horse reacts to the snow/ roof thing. It’s fun because she’s fit as any athlete, still bounces if she hits the ground, and sticks like glue.
I told her I’m glad she enjoyed it.
