Your thoughts on Arabian/Standardbred cross UPDATE Post 27

My first horse was an Arab/standardbred mare. Beautiful mover at the trot; canter was like riding a kangaroo–BOING! BOING! BOING!

Gosh you’ve made me so curious. I’ve got to go try him out soon. And I didn’t know there were so many specific variations of white with brown/black. He has just a drizzle of white on shoulder and rump, like dripped paint. And a stripe very low on his face.

Here’s his ad. Since it’s on a public sale site I guess it’s OK. Nobody go and snatch him up: https://www.equinenow.com/horse-ad-1277111 You can barely see the drizzle on the shoulder but not on rump. Nothing fancy, but hopefully solid and fun. He’s a short tank.

Oops, last post was “Unapproved” probably because I posted a link to his ad.

Anyway, I’m so curious that I can’t wait to try him out. He seemed sweet when I took a quick look at him. And I didn’t know there were so many different types of white with brown/black variations. He looks like someone dripped white paint on his shoulder, rump and the lower part of his face.

I haven’t shopped for a horse in 23 years and I don’t want to fall for the very first one I see.

Party foul - you can’t post that type of interesting description without a picture!!!

Are you sure it’s a Standardbred cross? Many people mistakenly use STB for “Saddlebred”, which is a common Half Arab cross, also called a National Show Horse.

I was thinking that too. My BO’s daughter has a NSH paint, and he’s a bit bulky too. And a wonderful dressage pony. I’m going to call the owner soon and ask more questions. Need a bit more $ before even starting the whole buying/vetting process and I don’t want to keep her waiting by trying him out too soon.

UPDATE: He was sweet and nice but pretty metabolic. After many years of dealing with Cushings in my last horse, constantly worrying about diet, sugar/starch, I didn’t want to go through that again. And hay soaking at a boarding barn is impossible to find.

Also, he was trained quite differently from what I’ve experienced before. Didn’t move off leg, no contact (trainer told me to “see saw the reins” GASP! CLUTCHING CHEST!)

Looks wise other than very fat, he was a very sturdy, big moving horse with nice proportions.

Today I think I found my next partner, a 13.3h Welsh cross/paint pony. And he’ll be staying where he is at a French Classical dressage trainer’s barn, where I look forward to learning a LOT.

All that an no pictures?

Glad that you found your unicorn and a place fitting for unicorns, as that little fellow and that barn sound.
Good for you!

Shame on me. I don’t know how to post photos.

You can click on that black picture of a camera on the left top of the posting window.
That would get you to a place to find your pictures in your photo album.
Double click on whatever picture you want and it will show on the menu.
Click to make it come up on the posting window itself and click post reply.

Really simple, compared with how we had to do that before, this site now does that for you.
