I’ve been fortunate through the years to have bred to every stallion I (or my parents) wanted to, with a couple of exceptions:
Poco Tivio
If I was into TBs, I would have loved to have bred a mare to Seattle Slew.
And I would have sold my teeth to own Poco Lena - a legendary mare who produced two legendary stallions, Dry Doc and Doc O’Lena. Unfortunately, she only produced the two.
I wish I had a mare to breed to A Fine Romance. I just love that horse…it’s more of a gut thing, than anything else.
To the OP - I’ve bred to 3 of the QH stallions on your list.
Alme Z
Ulft
Mexico
Son-In-Law
Roemer
IC Blue Shadow (I had one of his sons)
Inschallah
Fair Play

I thought about doing a thread on mares… but my lists were even longer lol. I would have loved to own Myrtle Dee. And way way too many more to list lol. Maybe i’ll start a thread on that sometime.

Ah, we bred 3 mares to Grays Starlight. Docs Starlight was his mother. I absolutely loved the Grays Starlight babies…two we sold for a bundle as yearlings and one was my non-pro horse for several years. I won a bunch on him.
Wow - thank you Go Fish, and TwistofFate, TKR, and leilatigress for including A Fine Romance on your lists.
It’s a huge, huge, honour to see his name along with those great horses mentioned.
I’m pondering my list …
Mmmm… I have some passed and some not…
Running Stag
My Babu
Reputed Testamony
A Fine Romance
Triple Twist
Bellamy Road
Mokhieba

He’s a fantastic stallion and please take this as a compliment, even if he’s just a bay. I am well known for my dislike of bays and was doing a running commentary of the beauty of your boy when my hubby looked to see who I was gushing at and noticed it was Romance he was shocked. “Isn’t that a bay?” “Yes but he’s the best bay I have EVER laid eyes on.”
Yes I know technically and genetically he’s a Brown but to me he’s bay.
Since we are dreaming, I would like to dip into fantasy land…may I have a son of the Black Stallion, please?

she had 3 fillies I think, and 4 colts. Badger Starlight, Grays Starlight, Gallo Del Cielo (aka Rooster) and Paddy’s Irish Whiskey. That 1 mare produces 1 stallion quality colt out of 4 is amazing, that all 4 were… is WOW. And no one can dispute that all 4 are incredible and definite stallion quality (well no one who likes WW Quarter Horses that is lol). 1 daughter didn’t have foals that I know ( I heard she died young) but the other 2 fillies have been very good broodmares too. Bunny’s Starlight has quite a few really nice ones that are up and coming I heard.
If we are talking mares as well, I would put Opalines des Pins at the very top of the list.
She is an SF daughter of Alme who is the dam of the Olympic gold medal winner Jus de Pommes (BWP) as well as the Olympic jumper Tresor des Pins, the SF stallion Shogoun II, who was also an Olympic Level jumper, and several more offspring who competed in FEI level show jumping.
To my thinking she is one of the greatest mares of all times.
I would like to have Kluwall in production -from a liimited number of foals she had an Olympic gold medalist, a horse that competed successfully at 1.6 m (olympic/World Cup level) (on a limited budget) and a champion timber horse from 5 foals.
The options were so limited back then and the warmblood jumper stallions so heavy (e.g. Nimmedor) and dissimlar overall to her in type with few options in the USA -I think she would have produced fabulously with the more modern elegant type jumper stallions of today.
ok… we can go with mares too lol…
Myrtle Dee (TB. dam of Three Bars… i would love to have crossed her, oh i can think of hundreds of ways lol).
Doc’s Starlight (QH… 7 foals, 4 are Amazing Stallions, 2 great broodmares, 1 died i heard).
Eyarth Zsa Zsa (welsh… really cool mare)
Weston Twiggy (welsh. Dam of Zsa Zsa lol).
Lucky Destiny (Dam of Hollywood White, and others lol).
Arilla (Straight Spanish Arabian mare… awesome broodmare).
Rodania (Arabian mare. Another fabulous producer)
Kadofa (Straight spanish arabian mare)
Jezebel+// (Straight Spanish arabian mare… awesome over fences, and has 3 foals, including a gorgeous Abdullah daughter. www.stanleyranch.com she is sooo adorable).
Vera- (any of the Duke of Veragua’s mares lol… arabian mares).
Mammoma (Russian arabian mare).
Estopa (many stallions have an internation breeding program based on them… in arabian-dom that is… Ferzon, Indraff, Padron… but very few mares are the cornerstone of one… Estopa is the cornerstone of the OmelArab program, in Germany and the U.S, and is well represented in Australia, all over Europe, and in the MiddleEast as well).
Ok… stopping now or i’ll go on for forever
Mares:
- Bonne Cause–dam of Bonne Nuit and Brave Bonnie
- Rose Leaves–dam of Bull Lea, Espino, and Bois de Rose
- Winter Rose–dam of Riviera Wonder, Miss Budweiser, Unusual, and Snow Bloom, among others.
- Plucky Liege
- Uvira or her daughter Missy Baba
- Welton Gazelle, dam of Catherson’s Dazzler and Yarland’s Summer Song
Except for Welton Gazelle, all are very old lines that are almost lost.
I do agree about Kluwall.
