Well, what happened! I cannot get the race
Someone???
Z’s race hasn’t gone off yet. She’s dancing on the track for the fans.
Not at the post yet. Anyone else get an echo with Cal RAcing?
Cal racing site is so bogged down, you can’t get in to see anything
I keep trying but cannot get on!!! iS there any other site!
And she keeps her perfect record!
I love that horse!!
I need a replay!!!
Beautiful! I love her.
He stayed closer than usual, moved her earlier than usual, and then she slacked off a bit in front getting there so soon, I thought, but she was never going to let the other horse by. Just galloping along still. Mike Smith wasn’t pushing her at all.
When she turned to come back, her ears pricked, her trot just floating - absolutely gorgeous.
How 'BOUT that big mare!!
Go, Zenyatta!
He looked like he was pushing her to me. At least waking her up. That other mare hung tough. No shame in that 2nd place.
She is just freaky, she gallops along then when she starts her run she just glides along. It seems like she hesitates a 1/2 second, near every horse she passes, as if to say BuBye!
Wasn’t pushing her at all? I guess I was watching a different race.
To me, it looked very easy, much easier than the margin, and she and the jockey both had lots of gears left unhit.
A few quotes from Blood Horse (link to full story below):
In what could be her final start in California, the great Zenyatta remained undefeated with her 18th consecutive win in rather routine fashion by a neck in the $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (gr. I) Aug. 7 at Del Mar
. . .
Still, it never appeared that Zenyatta was in danger as she won with her ears pricked.
“She was literally playing,” Smith told TVG afterward. “I hit the button a little too soon. When she gets in front, she thinks its over. She wants to salute the fans.”
. . .
Trainer John Shirreffs has mentioned the Beldame Stakes (gr. I), a 1 1/8-mile race at Belmont Park Oct. 2, as a possibility for Zenyatta’s final start before she defends her title in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) at Churchill downs Nov. 6.
Good heavens, she just float float FLOATS. She floats 4 wide, she floats on the rail, she floats on poly, she floats on dirt.
But it’s a 17 hand monster dominant intimidator freight train of doom nothing-will-stop-me-doesn’t-it-look-like-I’m-just-cantering floating.
I can’t think of any other way to describe it, it’s surreal.
Those marvelous pretty floppy ears flicking between Mike Smith, her vanquished competitors, and the crowd tell the whole story to me.
All hail the Queen indeed.
So many thanks to Maybepril for giving me the link. Tonite could not be any better. My almost 8 month old grandson in my lap cheering Zenyatta on. Doesnt get much better and never would have found the channel without Maybepril!!! Many thanks.
As a side note, I LOVED that TVG said in effect to the Fox Networks who were joining them, “We know there’s a Dodgers pregame show starting now, and we know the Dodgers are in a championship race, but instead of cutting away right now, you are staying with us to watch OUR champion. We’ll get you over to baseball in a little bit.”
Yes, let the baseball fans watch our champion while waiting for their sport. I well remember many times having to watch something else that ran over while waiting for the horses to finally get on screen. And I can’t think of a single better horse to watch for a non racing fan right now - the way she wins and the way she plays the crowd, she pulls the viewers in.
TVG is playing an awesome tribute to her right now, who is that singing?
I love it - 'Yatta, 'Yatta, 'Yatta!!!
Unbelievable
WOW! Oh WOW! What a performance.
For those out there ‘missing’ the Zenyatta show, please tune in. You’ll see the greatest horse to grace our tracks since Secretariat - I truly believe that. How can anyone doubt 18 victories in a row? And, the act she puts on prior to the start and after the race is so wonderful.
I feel blessed to be alive to see this horse in my lifetime.

The fractions were unbelievably slow… she had zero pace to run at… tough for a serious closer yet she once again found a way to win. She is as good as it gets… Needs to be on cover of Sports Illustrated between now and the Breeders Cup… and Time and Newsweek too…
She does look HUGE.
