10 Cities

If you could pick 10 cities in the US to live, where would pick?

None - I hate cities…

Towns - that is another issue -

I live there (here?!). I love it here…unfortunately it took me eight years, the entire time I’ve lived here, to really realize that. And, even more unfortunately, I’m almost definitely moving to NY next spring. I just love the way things happen like that…

I’ve lived LOTS AND LOTS of places, and consider myself to be a bit of an expert on this kind of stuff, so here is my list:

  1. LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY
  2. LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY
  3. LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY
  4. LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY
  5. LEXIN (well, you get the idea)

Though sometimes I think Chicago might be an interesting place to visit. Architecturally speaking, that is.

Vermont can be beeeeyouuuuuuuteeeeeefullllll also. But I don’t think there are a lot of jobs up there for someone of my (lack of) talents.

Middleburg, VA
Lambourn, England
Newmarket, England
hmmmmm

Just repeat the above ten times.

I’m more of a country gal myself… I live in Saratoga right now, which is technically a city, but it’s pretty small.

Ooh, ooh, I want to add Jackson Hole, WY to my list!

Pittsburgh? I can assure you that unless you have to, you do not want to live there. I went to college there… 4 years of miserable, gray, drizzly, depressing coldness from October through April; sizzling heat and oppressive humidity from May until September’s end. The only place worse than Pittsburgh might possibly be Cleveland (where I also lived for over a year, and wouldn’t go back if someone offered me a million dollar a year salary).

If you haven’t seen it yet, rent “Wonderboys” with Michael Douglas, Robert Downey Jr, Tobey Maguire and Katie Holmes. They filmed it on campus when I was a senior (I saw Michael Douglas no less than 10 times during the shooting)… and it perfectly captures the essence of Pittsburgh… an industrial city in decline. It is also a great flick.

I paid my dues in the east… where you really want to live is coastal California.

Hey Snidgie5, I am going to be in Saratoga for Thanksgiving. Are there any horse shows going on around that time?

I know. I’ve come to the conclusion that hunters suck. And that is my conclusion of the week. Next week, hunteriffic is the only way to be!

I like being by myself… I’m used to it.

Then I would consider:
Flagstaff, AZ.
Prescott, AZ.
Greer, AZ.

Fredricksburg, TX.
Del Mar, CA.

Durango, CO.
Jackson Hole, WY.
Seattle, WA.
Portland, OR.

Please take note: Nowhere did I mention Scottsdale, AZ. My current residence…

I don’t think there are any shows up here then. Not too many in the winter really. We have one at Skidmore on the eleventh, but you probably won’t be up yet. You’re welcome to stop by our stables if you need a horsey fix though!

There are lots of cities I love to visit, but to live in? I only have a handful…can’t do 10!

(in no particular order)

New York City
New Orleans, LA
San Francisco, CA
Savannah, GA

In no particular order:

Lexingon, KY
Rancho Santa Fe, CA
San Francisco
Middleburg
Nashville
Memphis
Seattle
Atlanta
Philly
Dallas

Towns too…I didn’t really think that there was a difference. Silly me

Someplace in Arizona (heard it’s good for asthma)

Yeah if you want to develop asthma!

Old wives tale, come to the desert if you have allergies. Well everyone came and couldn’t stand the austerity and brought all the “bloomin’ plants” to make it green!!!

I fight breathing everyday here, between bermuda grass, the oleanders and the palo verde trees it’s a nightmare.

But it is sunny…ALWAYS.

“The older I get, the better I used to be, but who the heck cares!”

Sunny downtown Barnet VT of course! It’s where all the “in” people live. And it’s a city too!

Boston, MA

Newport, RI

Parker, TX

Seattle, WA (one of my best friends is stationed there)

Ft. Myers, FL (ha ha, I like old people)

Rochester Hills, MI (where I used to live)

Austin, TX (where I live now, duh)

Someplace in Arizona (heard it’s good for asthma)

Harrisburg, PA (so I can be close to my grandparents)

Ninevah, NY (upstate… where my late aunt used to live… in her house… it was really neato… plus her brother bred horses about 2 miles away… so I’d live at his place too if need be.)

But I want to move to Valley Ranch when I grad. Muhahahahahaha!

San Diego (Temecula area) when I win the lottery, a really big one!!

Nashville, TN

Bend, OR

Albuquerque, NM

Tucson, AZ

Williams, AZ (in the mountains)

Hmmm…Yuma doesn’t seem to be making the list.

I have to say, I LOVED living in San Francisco, but my current Lake Tahoe home ain’t too shabby…

jparkes, ehere do you live in WA? I went to school in Spokane.

And Idaho isn’t so bad if you’re a horse lover! My parents have a place on a river way up in the north (near canada). Across the river from us, someone breeds Morgans (probably around 30 mares or so) and Patrick Swayze has a vacation home and some Arabs around the bend.

Last time I drove up, I took a random way (ie-not I-5 through Seattle and across, I went through lovely Winnemucca and up through the desert) and passed a GORGEOUS facility on the Oregon/Idaho border. I stopped and looked, but couldn’t tell what they were breeding and training there. Racehorses maybe? Some sort of sporthorse. It was huge and beautifully landscaped, and breathtaking. Gorgeous grassy pastures, big white, new Kentucky-ish barns…Beautiful horses, too. It was called something like Pine Top? Tree Top? Heck, I can’t remember, but I fell in love! Any Easter Oregonians/Western Idahoans know what I’m (not very sucessfully) talking about??
