10 ring training martingale

Can anyone tell me how these are used? See the arab folks using them, but I am having trouble understanding the biomechanics of how they work, & why you would select the lower rings on these …

The lower you set the reins, the more pressure on the bars, and the more the horse is encouraged to curl behind the bridle (as is looked for in many main ring classes). It is similar to using draw reins between the legs. A western main ring horse might be schooled on the lower ring for a lower curled neck, whereas an english main ring horse with a naturally higher head set (that you don’t want to loose) might use a higher ring to encourage a higher “hooky” neck.

CHT is dead on. You don’t much see those martingales outside Main Ring.
