Congratulations! Boy he looks great, it appears that his new home and career agree with him.
What a great looking horse!
So glad Tony has found a good home. I hope you have many years together!
Congrats! Happy future to both of you!
He looks like a sweetheart and a goer.
Well done you, and it’s a sure thing that you’ll take the best care of him. He’s earned his way and should have his choice in life now.
You are very lucky to have such a horse, as I’m sure you know. Give him a pat for us.
Does he go back to the farm when he retires again?
Nice to know that people can look for horses at places where race horses have been “permanently” retired.
This should be a wake up call to people who think they have permanently retired a horse and paid for his retirement.
I hope that the poster who has bought him will keep him forever, but board is expensive for a retiree if she gets a new horse in a few years.
Good luck with him. He looks like a good boy who deserves to live out his life in a good home. I hope the horses that the farm said were his friends also stay safe.
Oh come now, the retirement facility looked for a new home for him because the horse showed he still wanted a job. While I wish every horse could just loll about in the pasture, some need to be handled everyday.
Are you csaper reincarnated
I really don’t understand all the fretting about this horse! I don’t know that this was ever a “retirement” situation - he was placed at Akindale, who, IN THEIR OWN WORDS, state:
“In order to fulfill its mission of “providing a safe haven for thoroughbreds no longer able to race”, the ATBR has expanded its goals. Realizing that more horses need to be responsibly adopted to private owners, so more can be taken in, they are committed to training and more aggressive communication about the adoption program.”
Tony is a clearly a Very Good (and Very Handsome!) Boy who had a Very Good Career, and who now apparently is perfectly fine with having a second Very Good Career. (and Myhorsedoesntapprove is a Very Lucky New Owner :D)
According to the adoption info listed on their site, Akindale will take this horse back if the new owners are, for whatever reason, unable to care for him. All horses should have such a good life and such a good insurance policy.
Myhorsedoesntapprove, thanks so much for posting pics, and have fun with your handsome new fella!
If you look at their Facebook (which is often a more up to date source than a website) they list Callmetony for adoption on Oct 16th. Sounds like he did not work out with ‘Jean and the girls’ for whatever reason. Myhorsedoesntapprove hardly seems to be snatching him out of anyone’s hands. I sincerely hope you enjoy him, seems like a sweet soul!
On regards to Tony’s retirement after he can no longer do the job I need from him (or no longer enjoys it)
Tony will stay with my family for the rest of his days and while he might not be ridden in the final years, he will be pampered and lived just the same. When Tony is no longer jumping for one reason or another, he will become a schoolmaster at my barn; not for riding but for teaching the younger or beginner riders to groom, bathe, clip, pull, lead a horse, etc. Thank you for your concern on the topic and Tony’s wellbeing
You’ve got him looking like a million bucks, great pic. Maybe he should be renamed to CallMeLucky
He does look great! Nice big-boned fella. How’s he like to ride?
Well this is great! If you change your mind when he gets too old, PM me. He deserves his retirement when he gets too old.
Good lord people, give it a rest. The horse has a home, go find one that doesn’t and put your hand wringing where your fingers are.
If I can no longer keep him for some reason, I will pm you but he will return to Aikendale as that’s a part of my adoption contract.
Tony Update, please delete if considered off topic
So far, Tony has become quite the unicorn. He’s being used as an IEA horse and even qualified for the Thoroughbred Incentive Program’s Championships in Kentucky this September! We hope to be competing in them at the 2’3-2’6 level and can’t wait to see how Tony does! If anyone has questions about Tony or anything mentioned in this reply, please feel free to message me
Congratulations to you and to Tony! Thanks for the update!
very cool. keep it up Tony!
