Hello, I am looking for someone who might have personal knowledge or hints to help with research about defunct stables or riding schools/clubs of the 1930s in New York City.
The two schools in question are Hauter Riding School and Turf Hunt Club. Hauter was located at 152 West 54th St., and Turf Hunt Club was at 136th St. in Harlem. The YWCA partnered with Hauter to provide equestrian lessons. One bit of information is that in 1937 white visitors to Central Park protested against black members of the Turf Hunt Club who were riding on the bridle path.
Any suggestions as to where to search, which forums to try is greatly appreciated! Thank you.
