1960s horse trailers

I’m helping out a non-horsey friend who had some horse-related questions for a novel he’s writing. One of them stumped me–what’s a brand/make of trailer that would have been popular in the 1960s? Anyone remember any?

Rice and Hartman are the two names that come to mind.

In Texas, Mileys were a big brand. On the east coast, foxhunter and hunter jumper land, vans like Imperatore were more likely seen than trailers, but I agree on trailers with Janet’s take. Also Cotner.

My mom had a Kingston.

I think WW and Merhow have been around a long time

Stidham

I had a 1960’s Schoop’s Trailer. That thing was a heavy beast!

We had a home made one horse open wooden trailer . No wonder the pony was a bad loader!

The one I had in the 70s was no doubt made in the 60s. I’m sure it was homemade. It had a manger, nothing between in and out but a plywood back door, no escape door, no tack storage despite the manger, and a removable divider too heavy to move. And a whole lot of rust.

What about Campbell Coach? Or were those in the 70s?

And in the 60’s it might likely would be pulled with a car…

In the 1970s, everyone I knew in New England had a Kingston. I don’t think they were all brand-new, so I would guess they were around in the 1960s

Incidentally, I still think trailers without the round fronts (like in the pic linked above) look weird.

I remember the giant station wagons pulling them. I thought I made that up.

I think this one was kept running for a couple decades at least: http://charlottesville.craigslist.org/grd/4643960262.html

No, we hauled from Fort Worth to Denver with a Dodge Coronet 440 wagon. The trailer was a WW two horse. It was 1967.

MMM I still hauled my 2horse around with a car as late as 1995 o…O

Would still do it today if they still made big stout cars with the right rear ends for it.

My 1989 Chevy Caprice had over 100,000 miles pulling a horse trailer and over 250,000 total when it gave up the ghost

a Streamliner Deluxe arrival meant the winner had arrived

Whatever brand Kurt Russell had in The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit.

So you could pull with the V8 wagon b/c they (cars) were so heavy at the time (before fuel efficiency mandates)? Or was it the wood panel sides

My mother’s best friend hauled her horses with a blue Caprice to VT & back to CT a few times a year.
