This is a long shot, but I have been searching for information about my old mare (Prissy/Sorpresa) for a very long time. She is most likely deceased, but I would still like to know what happened to her. Her full registered name is Sorpresa Arce del Reino.
I had two Pasos when I was a kid. One of them got Potomac Fever around about 1986 and foundered badly. She was costing my family so much that they gave me (at 14) the “choice”: sell my sound pony, or put the other down. I opted to save my other mare and I sold Prissy to a veterinarian and his wife who called her Sorpresa. They boarded at the same place for awhile, but eventually the farm was sold and they moved their horses home. I asked them to please call me if they ever wanted to sell her because I would buy her back if I was able.
My other mare recovered fully and lived to be 33. She died last year, loved. Her story is over.
A few years after I sold my mare, the vet and his wife got divorced and she moved out taking Prissy with her. She sold Prissy without her papers, and I have been searching for her ever since. Without the internet, it was nearly impossible to trace where she ended up. The vet had no idea where his ex lived, but did tell me that she sold Prissy to a riding camp called Sugarloaf Equestrian Center in Boyds, MD. I called them and they did not want to tell me where she was. They said that they had had her for awhile and that she was bought for a child - but all their records were lost in a fire so they couldn’t give me any more info. If she went home with a kid, great. She was an awesome kid horse. She loved children. However, I know that some riding camps will send their used up horses to slaughter and this is what keeps me up at night when my brain touches those old memories.
I have searched horse ads for many years trying to find her. I have looked through countless photos trying to find an answer. If she was loved, I should think that there should be a photo somewhere on the internet. I have many photos of my cherished horses throughout the years.
I know where every horse I have owned is now. Except her. I let her down and I blame myself.
I just want to know what happened to her - even if it’s bad.
She was 13.2 with a distinctive double star (very small) with a small snip on her nose. She had no other white markings but she had a bit of rabicano along her flanks. Otherwise, she was a plain brown wrapper.
