1990’s Horse Game

I had a memory about a game I used to have. I’m pretty sure it was a board game, and it had cards that had horses on them. I think one of the horses name was Joan of Arc.

Anyone have any idea of what I’m talking about??

That’s it!!! Thank you!!

I don’t think I ever played it properly, but my imagination ran wild with all the different horses and their stories!

My step kids played it the same way when they were kids, so picked up this copy for us to play together. It’s still available on Amazon!

I’ve never seen that board game, but a while ago I came across some old trading cards with Grand Prix jumpers and their riders on them.

They were probably from the early 90s, and I think they were put out by one of the tack shops of that era. Maybe Miller’s? They were quite a blast from the past.

I had that game! I remember nothing about it but I definitely owned and played it.

Also yes to the Grand Prix trading cards! I think they were from Millers. I had a bunch (and maybe really had a crush on McLain Ward so was maybe really excited when I got his trading card lol)

I had this game! Might still have it actually. I don’t remember how you played it, but I LOVED all of the cards because the illustrations were so pretty.

I recently bought this game and play it with my lesson students! It has some good info about breeds and colors, as well as a bunch of different playing options. The students love it!

There are 3 different ways to play as well as single games you can do with just the cards, not the board.

Each player picks a stallion to be for their “character” and each Stallion has a story. There are ranch horse cards and mustang cards. The board has tons of interconnected landing spots and you can travel anywhere that’s connected (forward or backward).

Lots of different rules within the game, but for the first version, you have to have 9 total horses to be able to go to the finish. For the second version, you are playing with a limited amount of cards and own a specific ranch, so the brands of the horses have to match your ranch and you have to have 8 horses (one of each type: sporting, hotblood, coldblood, etc) to go to the finish. The third version, you have to have a certain number of pairs matched by either marking or color family to be able to go to the finish.

Lots of different fun aspects to the game, such as landing on another player means you can take one of their horses. There are “adventure cards” that might kill off a horse or cause one to run away. One time a student was able to accumulate 23 horses before going to the finish.

My students ask to play it all the time now.

PS: I typically don’t like playing board games (too competitive), but I love this one. Might be because it involves horses, but it really is a fun game!
