"$2 Target Shine Spray"

Washington International’s facebook page put up a photo of the horse that won “best turned out”. The caption reads “Thanks to one dedicated groom and a $2 bottle of shine spray purchased from Target earlier today…”

Maybe I’m frugal (or maybe I have a $2500 vet bill hanging over my head), but does anyone have any idea what spray this may be? I definitely like to fill my barn with everyday items, rather than “horse specific”. Anyone have a guess?

In the comments, many have asked, but it seems that the secret will not be told.

Aside from that; what “human” grooming tools do you use? What products designated for horses will you bypass because there is a better people-product?

Probably furniture polish and if so I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable using it for that purpose…

I know a lot of people use Pledge instead of Showsheen. So my guess would be it’s the Target brand version of that.

Probably Pledge

I know some people use a product I think called Pink. It is a spray that is found usually in the ethnic hair section of Target around here.

I guessing it’s a human spray conditioner/detangler a la Pink and probably a smallish bottle for $2.

Healthy Hair Care works out to be pretty darn cheap when you buy the concentrate, that’s what I use.

Healthy Haircare attracts dust like nobody’s business. I agree, it was probably Pledge. I used to use Pledge on my horse all the time, and it was great for shine and for keeping the dust off.

Nothing they got at Target made that horse’s coat shine like a mirror. That was elbow grease on display.

The Target story sounds nice, though.

Funny! I swear by HHC! Use it on the dog too

Don’t get me wrong, I love “pink stuff” but it does attract dust!! At least IME, it does!!! But I do love that stuff sprayed on and rubbed in with a rub rag. And it smells so good!!

EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!

If your horse has quality nutrition and you are willing to put in the time and elbow grease that is good horsemanship, why on earth would you need a coat polish? My horse sure doesn’t.

I find the HHC has a great detangling quality, especially on the mane/tail (and dog), smells great, and gives that finish shine to horses who don’t naturally have a really MIRROR SHINE coat (grays and some chestnuts, IME, don’t always shine up the way darker colored coats do).

We use Healthy Hair Care after a bath while the horse is still damp and daily in our grooming routine for tails (Just spray, no brushing). We don’t put it on directly before a class because it does seem to attract the weirdest dust particles but I find it keeps the coat really healthy overall (With proper grooming of course). I despise show sheen and will either use a product that the western people use (name is escaping me at the moment) or good old “Pink” spray from walgreens right before we walk into the ring.

Pepi?

Pepi?[/QUOTE]

Not $2 and not from target. Probably one of the pink or olive oil natural hair care products available in the health and beauty aisle.

Also HHC on a dry coat before clipping is even better than showsheen, IMHO, for making the clippers glide through. But some company made a product specifically for that purpose which is DA BOMB. Blanking on the name, maybe “Pre Clip”? It’s awesome.

Amazon has Pink too: http://www.amazon.com/Luster-Pink-Sheen-Shine-Spray/dp/B000142OQ8

Sorry was trying to anser the post above me who couldn’t remember the coat care product popular in the western world. Pepi is common there. I think it gathers dust as well. Vetrolin shine was always my favorite.

What’s that???
