Anyone involved in show management have any input or opinions on brands/makes of handheld 2 way radios for use in smaller shows (i.e., area covered not the size of Tyron etc!!). I am interested in something more handy to hold and carry all day (per TD input) than the larger Motorola type, but I want something that is reliable and good quality. Preference for disposable battery vs rechargable ones? We figure we will need at least 6. Thank you!
Why not just use cell phones? That’s what we used at the CDS Annual Show and Regional Championships last time I was involved a couple of years ago.
That’s what we did this weekend, but with switching over volunteers every 2 hrs then having to be sure they have all the numbers of everyone else was an added hassle and worrying about having enough charge to last the day. We would like to check out the 2 way radios as an option.
We use the black and yellow-orange ones made by Sony. They use batteries and have quite a few channels. Very sturdy and have lasted years.
- I’m not involved in managing shows but have used these at shows for communication between barn and back gate, finding trainer, finding grooms, finding husband, etc.
If I ever found my husband at a horse show, I think I’d faint!!
Most of the events around here rent them, which is nice as then maintenance is someone else’s problem.
yes do consider the cost of the radios v the frequency of use. Rental may be a wiser choice unless you have a show series year to year
