200 Neglected Horses in MS?

This saga is just getting crazier. The horses are now going to be shipped back to MS from Presidio, Texas, it absolutely makes no sense, why weren’t the horses sold to the rescues before the Stanley brothers shipped them. Can these horses, already in poor condition even survive another 600 mile journey. IdahoRider - shoot me a p.m. I have my suspicions too.

I don’t see anything mentioning the horses are being shipped back to MS.
However, they are - if this goes through - going somewhere.

Regarding ARM, there were some big troubles some years back regarding their 501©3 dealings and from what I recall, they did end up with a fine?

I met Terry a couple of years back and she was very open about all the messes, and specifically the one that happened here in KY.

From what I understand, she now has a lot more board members and is committed to total transparency.

IMO, I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt and will see what happens with this situation. So far she has posted (via snip-it) the total collected in their PayPal account every day and has been keeping everyone updated.

Unfortunately there are some extremely self centered individuals who apparently have nothing better to do than to try and boycott this whole endeavor by making threatening phone calls to the Stanley brothers over the Holidays.

How often have we seen jealousy over not being the one in the limelight derail an effort. This was a done deal, regardless of how one feels about giving a bunch of money to a kill buyer.

To be so petty at this point is just outrageous.

The “messes” seem to follow some people more closely than others. At some point people begin to question why that is. There are hard working rescues out there that never have issues with regulations or paperwork or fundraising “snafus”. This group seems to have issues over and over again. And oddly enough, they never learn from past mistakes because the issues always involve money.

After years of denying any wrong doing, and turning questions back by using the same old, “I am too busy saving horses to pay attention to the laws” excuse, they were finally investigated and charged with a crime (co-mingling of funds, which had been one of the complaints heard about them for years). Terry did plead and pay a fine. But it was kind of a big deal at the time. Especially when you consider that she had been denying the charges for a long, long time. Not just denials about a few isolated incidents, but denials spread over years regarding complaints from many different people. You would think that at some point, they would have looked into those complaints and seen the problem and corrected it. But that wasn’t the case. It took an investigation from New Jersey’s AG to make them actually acknowledge anything.

This situation is very similar to the situation they were involved in last spring/summer. Fundraising for boatloads of cash for a herd of horses they never had custody of. Surprise! When they got called out on it they claimed they had expenses regardless of where the horses were. $5,000 for a month’s rent on a barn when you don’t even know what the needs are yet? Apparently.

As I said, we all want the best outcome for the surviving horses. Just tread carefully when ARM is involved.
Sheilah

I am not defending ARM’s past actions, especially since they were working with Christy Sheidy for some time.

At this point however, there is absolutely NO reason to sabotage the current endeavor just out of spite.

There is nothing spiteful in telling people to be careful. We all want the best outcome for the horses.

Sheilah, I wasn’t talking about your comments, but about those despicable individuals causing a bunch of ruckus with their calls to the Stanley’s.

So what’s going on with this? I just spotted this post on facebook. Is ARM up to no good again?

ARM SCAM

This is to inform amyone following the Mississippi, Copiah County horse situation, to be very very cautious.

There is no contract, there will be no horses. The horses never made it to any of the Presidio Export holding pens. This is a huge scam being perpetuated by ARM and Renee Paxton of SSHS.

** If you have donated money, I suggest you request a refund immediately, file a complaint with Paypal etc. **

If there ever were any horses, they were rejects from the export pen, but there were never any horses inspected and then being held."

$40k…200 horses…someone is making money…I haven’t kept up with slaughter prices but slaughter bound horses sure don’t go for that price at the auctions!!! I haven’t followed this closely nor do I know all the details…I just hate feeding the enemy.

Out of the approx. 200 - it appears 65 are safe. I know some of the 200 died. Where are the others?

Something is very fishy about this whole thing. Is someone going to FOIA to find out exactly where these horses came from?

The tags that were on a few of the original horses were linked back to the Stanley Brothers.

Actually, the $40,000 was for 65 horses, not 200. Some of the original horses went directly to rescues.

What I learned is that the Stanley brothers would be in violation of their contract with Inner Meats if they pulled horses that were already in the Presidio pens. People are also saying the horses in the photos look like slaughter rejects while the ones picked up by the Stanley’s were in good shape.

Something is just not adding up.

Jen, the pictures they recently posted are of the horses the Earls turned over in the beginning. They were extremely thin. I do recall some of them having tags when this story first hit FB. Those tag numbers were FOIA’d and led to the Stanleys.

Yes, but were any of them ever in the Presidio pens? Sounds like no.

I don’t think they made it that far either.
