2010 Saddle Seat Equitation World Cup

http://www.saddleseatworldcupusa.com/TheCompetition/2010

The Saddle Seat World Cup competition will be held in conjunction with the Kentucky Fall Classic Horse Show at the Shelby County Fairgrounds, Shelbyville, KY, October 6-8.

This year’s teams will herald from the U.S., South Africa, Germany, Great Britain and Canada. Namibia has also fielded a team in the past. In the past only the U.S. and South Africa have fielded both 3 and 5 gaited teams. This year all participating countries will be bringing both a 3 and a 5 gaited team.

The riders on all teams in both the 3 and 5 gaited division will display their equitation and horsemanship on horses they have never ridden before this competition. The horses used for the competition are donated for the event.

This competition has been occuring every other year, rotating in venue between the U.S. and South Africa since 1992.

Just another interesting event occuring in Kentucky during the World Equestrian Games!

And the spectator fees are MUCH cheaper than the WEGs!

Word!!

I’ve actually always wanted to go to this. Maybe this is the year! The US teams are FABULOUS this year: Three-Gaited team headed up by Saddlebred Rescue’s “Crash Test Dummy” Jessica Moctezuma and Five-Gaited team headed by another young rider I’m a huge fan of, Ali Judah.

More info here.

GO TEAM USA!!!

should be cool!!!

The Shelbyville Fair Grounds are awesome showgrounds. Very nice ring, for both exhibitors and spectators. I may have to head over there for a day or so.

Caitlin

I’m kind of toying with making a day trip up there for it. Looks like the only day I’d be able to see both the 3G and 5G teams would be Fri. Oct. 8.

Never been to Shelbyville, always wanted to. Would LOVE to show there, but of course ASB Hunters Need Not Apply, absent a $5,000 donation.:dead:

My father is from Shelbyville, and I still have close family there… it’s my second hometown .

The current ring is a rebuild of the old grandstand which burned to the ground back when I was just a baby. My Mom tells of she and my Dad walking from the house to the back of the grounds to watch it burn. It is reminiscent of the old county fairground “Bullpens” from the olden days of Kentucky, and an absolute trip to ride in. The in-gate is a pass through under the second story announcer stand (quite cool to ride through :D) and the arena is a banked oval with a center bandstand and trees. almost half of the seating is charming covered grandstand, with regular bleachers opposite.

Shelbyville itself is a great historic community with a nicely restored downtown district featuring neat little shops and lunch spots. The fairgrounds itself still has the big old trees, and fancy gates. It’s situtated directly across from a full size bronze of Mary Gaylord on CH Santana Lass who welcome visitors into the downtown district. I’m really frustrated that I can’t find a photo of it on the web because it’s pretty impressive.

Shelbyville really is worth the trip.
The horseshows are a social event as well, they run into the evening under the lights, the grounds are just beautiful and they have a live keyboardist playing “organ” music - we were there for a couple of KASPHA shows and my DD told me they were playing tunes from Aladdin.

You go uphill through the tunnel and out you go into the lights and the action - it’s genuine Kentucky.

SmartAlex - I saw a pic of the statue at some point but now I can’t find it either, sorry!

Does anyone know if there’s a listing anywhere of who all is on the other countries’ teams?

Hey I finally found a photo of Santana Lass’s life size sculpture. I knew it was on this website, but the site was down at the time:

That looks like loads of FUN. Turns out, it’s along with the Kentucky Fall Classic show. Here’s a website with a class sheet.

www.richfieldvideo.com will have the live webcast of this event and the KY Fall Classic Horse Show.
