From the looks of the email blasts, entries are down and some of the usual consignors have no ponies entered this year.

Who is entering ponies this year?
I usually hear about several ponies that will be entered by now, and haven’t heard of any. Looking over the list entries do seem to be way down. There were some big tickets last year but, for the most part, people got far better prices on the private market. There could only be so many years of that before people stop giving it a try. Add to that, payouts for the youngstock haven’t been covering what breeders had invested in the youngstock, and certainly not covering the trip to Kentucky. Really didn’t notice much youngins’ at all in that line up this year.
What a shame.
I know the economy has something to do with it…
I wonder if there will be an actual catalogue this year?
and a lot of the same ponies that have been advertised in other places
I wonder if the change in day from Wednesday to Saturday has anything to do with the drop in entries. It seems to me that on Wed, pre-Pony Finals, everyone is full of enthusiasm and can’t wait to get the excitement started. On Saturday, everybody’s just tired.
Pony Finals Sale
I think the change of days to Sat. was a bad move. Everyone I have talked to agrees.
Last year I never even got a catalogue and there was no on-line bidding.
I hope it goes well for those who have taken the time and money to enter. We shall see.
Is it possible that private sales are picking up?
Does anyone know of ponies that have not previously been offered for sale getting entered? As Silk indicated, these ponies that are listed have been offered for sale most of the year on other sites. Good comment Silk!
I’ve seen several of the ponies that are in the sale on some facebook pages I am a part of. I was contacted by the sale, I am guessing because I posted the pony on one of the sales sights on facebook. I chose not to put the pony in the sale for a couple of reasons. One being I think that I think I can get more money privately and I would rather lease than sell. It is also because we have three ponies showing and we will be exhausted by Saturday!
…and I think many of us use the same sale pages

Not Selling in the sale I do not want to pay high fees, and I don’t think the customers are confident about the ponies that have been sold over the past 2 yrs . They want to take there time, and buy cautiously. Bringing one that can be tried all week and avail for private negotiation’s.
I do know that what I’ve heard (over on Facebook) is it costs too much to get them to KY (travel, hotel, fees to enter, additional help, etc.) and then they bring low prices so in the end you’re losing money.
I’ve also had numerous messages (private) about the bid getting run up to get the pony sold at an inflated price (not good!). Apparently some folks intentionally were at the sale watching to see where the bidders were.
On a different note, if you are a buyer and you have a particular pony in mind that you like, you should be in contact with the seller BEFORE KY to ask questions or even go see it if possible. What I don’t like are the folks that try pony after pony (tire kickers) and wear the ponies out. I definitely think there needs to be a limit of some sort for the pony’s sake.
The preview and catalog are online at www.sporthorseauctions.com. Reduced numbers are partly due to the dramatic reduction in breeding in every breed and discipline. Pony breeders are no exception and we are starting to see the drop in the numbers of available young ponies.
The change in the date was something we heard often in recruiting for this auction. Also the trend is that live auction entries are down in numbers in every discipline and breed.
As to the prices, the average price in 2012 was up by 1% to $10,541, the third straight increase in average. The median price jumped by 61% to $9,000 up from $5,600 in 2012. Like the real estate market, the recovery is slower than we would like to see.
As to the comments on quality…From the 2012 auction
Will there be bargains? Of course. But for the most part, you will see the real market value of the ponies being sold.
The auction catalog is available online and the printed catalog will be available at the Pony Finals. Online Bidding returns to the Pony Finals. You can watch the Preview LIVE online at www.sporthorseauctions.com
Let’s show updates to the finals here in addition to the sale results!
I know how many of mine qualified, just not sure which ones are actually going. Feed- back would be greatly appreciated.
