2013 Pony Finals Results & Sale updates!!

It’s interesting how one pony can skew the entire auction results. Take that one high seller out and you have about the same numbers as years past.

Has anyone calculated the average selling price? What do you think these results say about pony economy?

How does the price of the sale topper compare to past years? It sounds like a high number to me, but I don’t follow this event too closely.

Congrats to the pony’s connections, though.

Statistically speaking, isn’t this how true averages are found? Take out the highest & lowest number, and average what’s left? Will be curious to see if they opt to go that route, it will surely be painful to toss out $75K.

I too am curious about what motivated the bidders to go so high on that pony - Admit I have never seen the pony and did not bother checking it’s results, but that is an awful lot of money for a young pony prospect, even for the private market. Congrats to the consignors & breeders though, you must be over the moon!

And are there typically that many $1000-$2000 sales at this auction? That just strikes me as painfully low considering what it would have cost to get the pony there & entered.

Figuring your average can be a little misleading… Unless, I’m missing something, I think what most of you are looking for is the sale’s median price, basically the price that’s right in the middle with the equal number of of each on both the high and low side. The few random really highs and/or really lows can skew the true picture of the prices when you compute an average number sometimes.

Does anyone know the winners of the Emerson Burr horsemanship quiz, or where to find them? Thanks!

I was the owner of Promise She was a product of a well thought out marketing plan. I bought her as an investment so with Emily’s expertise we planned her future as one would with any other solid plan. We accomplished each phase of our plan prior to moving along. The result was an honest , talented show pony that ANY child could excel on . Her sale to her new girls was the final step in our plan.

I just saw that Emily was the agent on this one on a facebook post. She is a long time client of ours and a pro at getting the best out of a young horse or pony, setting it up for future success, and being honest about any shortcomings or potential pitfalls. Kudos to all, a real testament to “doing it right”.

8 and under—Hallie Rush
9-11—Alex Trubey
12-14—Rachel Tanio
15-17—Katherine Wiedmann.

Since you mentioned her … Katherine is mine. She also tied for 9th in the individual Pony Jumper Championships and had one of the few clear rounds in Friday’s class. I’m so proud of her and all the work she has put in this year.

Love our pony too - he doesn’t look like a conventional pony jumper but he tries hard and gets the job done.

ETA: Katherine and at least one other winner are in Pony Club.

Hallie Rush is also in pony club. Very talented little rider that’s jumped into the ponies well out of no where.

I saw Hallie riding in the sale preview - I agree, she is very talented and her connections were all very nice.

Congratulations!!!

I love the Emerson Burr award art of Pony Finals. In my view, it should be required for all these kids. A little horsemanship lesson would probably be beneficial. I unfortunately witnessed some poor behaviour when things did not go well. Luckily, the majority of the kids gave their ponies big pats and hugs whatever the result.

It just takes two keen buyers at an auction who MUST HAVE a certain animal and the bidding only stops once one of them cries “uncle”. It doesn’t happen all the time (which is why most people prefer to sell privately and not risk the gamble), but when you get those two buyers bidding on the same animal, it is a seller’s dream!

Please give your Katherine my congratulations for winning a very important award! I’m sure many COTHers are as impressed as I am.

Congratulations to buyers and sellers on an amazing Pony Finals Auction. It was strong from start to finish, with many ponies bringing prices well above their reserves. The high selling pony was a gorgeous pony, beautifully prepared and expertly marketed. It was a great example of how a quality pony/horse can bring top dollar at an auction, which creates a competitive atmosphere.

omg, congrats!!!

As a mom, lcw579 has much to be proud of. Her daughter is a charmingly modest, independent-thinking, talented young horsewoman. Winning the Emerson Burr award for her age group is a wonderful accomplishment. As is taking a plain bay pony, who goes in a rubber Baucher bit and no martingale, and qualifying for pony jumpers in Kentucky…then laying down rock solid rounds all this past week to end up tied for 9th.

Congratulations on a well-executed plan. I have a Charter filly too and the quality of his babies is undeniable. Best of luck to her new owners…the little girls looked thrilled :).
