I’d like to change that to, “Until one has love a Thoroughbred”.
My kitties would take issue with that!

So–as I recall-- there were 3 Uncle Mo and 3 Tapit offspring each in the Kentucy Derby. Uncle Mo seemed like a pretty hot ticket for a new sire. After all 3 races ( Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont) what is the view of each of these sires and how their offspring fared in these races?

Tapit is currently the most sought after, most influential sire in the U.S.
Uncle Mo is the most sought after up-and-coming sire.
The performances of their offspring in the Triple Crown races just gilded the lily.

In your opinion, how many mares did each get this year? Of those, how many would generally be at full price on the fee?
I’m asking because I am imagining that there is no need to negotiate on either horses stud fee. However, I know that there are farm mares, those owned by the owner(s) of the stallions, etc.

You can look some of that stuff up.

Gainesway says that Tapit’s book is capped at 135 mares. The 2016 numbers aren’t out yet but in 2015 he bred 134 mares. Of course some of those would have been farm and shareholder mares.
As for Uncle Mo, in 2015 he bred 221 mares (northern hemisphere–I’m not sure if he shuttles.) In 2016 he most likely bred as many or more mares than that. In 2017, it will probably be “if he’s breathing, he’s breeding.”

Interesting. So, if Tapit makes them 30plus million or so, they are doing all right!
My interest in racing is from afar-- piqued annually by the Triple Crown races. And in having OTTB horses-- I find the racing world a fascinating universe. Is there/are there some sites where information on sire stats can be found? I am interested in reading further, just out of my own interest and curiosity.

The best place for that would be the BloodHorse Stallion Register. It’s easier to navigate around if you already know the names of the stallions you want to look up, but if not, start with the links to the National Sire Lists (each stallion on those lists then links back to its individual page) On the stallion page there are all sorts of statistics to be found.

I know that jockeys don’t take much time off, except for injuries, but the alcoholics that I’ve known who quit cold turkey ended up in the hospital and it took a lot longer than a few weeks for them to get back to normal functioning. Hope it goes well for him. I remember all the flack he took for his ride on Real Quiet in the Belmon, I’m sure that still haunts him.
Didn’t he go to a treatment center to detox? I don’t think he quit without medical assistance (cold turkey).

I just tried this with my mare’s sire, Wiseman’s Ferry, and got 0 results. On To Glory, her damsire also produced 0 results. I even got her papers to double check the spelling.
Some of the lesser sires are not on the Bloodhorse site. Wisemans Ferry died last year.

Sorry to hear that. I figured after Wise Dan was HOY twice he would show up.

Sorry. I should have said that the BloodHorse Stallion Register is for stallions that are currently standing in the U.S.

There are a number of sites but for “free” basic information The Blood Horse as others have given. TDN (Thoroughbred Daily News) has some very good research resources for free
http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/
In addition I think you will find their Daily TB News very informative and fun to read. Sign up for free give them you email address and you will get a link to the Days Stakes and allowance race results, good articles horses and people and what is going on in the business of breeding, sales and racing.
They also offer a smartphone App.

The Blood-Horse website doesn’t offer/keep stats on deceased horses.
This is a list of all of Wiesman’s Ferry’s “Black type” stakes winners which can be had for free on the Thoroughbred Daily New’s (TDN) website.
As you can see other than being the sire of Wise Dan he was a moderate sire at best. Not much different than Ole Bob Bowers IMO
The TDN only goes back to 1996. On to Glory a foal of 71 died in 92. There wouldn’t be a lot of information if any to be found on him for free. He is basically a “foot note” in the TB world of breeding and racing.
You could get a complete progeny report from Equineline for around $20.
