2016 Breeder's Cup - all races :)

Found has run well on everything from ‘Heavy’ going to ‘Good-to-Firm’. However she has never run on the SoCal flavor of ‘Firm’ going she is likely to encounter at Santa Anita.

Coolmore haven’t been afraid to roll the dice and enter stone cold turf runners in the Classic in the past. The results have been varied; Some acquitted themselves well; the nose hair loss of Giant’s Causeway to Tiznow, Declaration of War’s losing by a neck in a three way tussle with Mucho Macho Man and Will Take Charge, and Henry the Navigator’s 2nd to Raven’ Pass (the latter of course will have an asterisk, as it was on Polytrack).
Others left a lot to be desired, like Gleneagles last year (has he finished yet?).
Most finished mid-pack, i.e didn’t disgrace themselves, but never looked like winning, Galileo, So You Think, George Washington, Hold that Tiger etc.

I find it odd that they would enter Found in the Classic though, because she is a filly. Talking a chance with a colt makes sense, if they win they hit the jackpot and their proven G1 winning turf horse is now also the winner of the biggest G1 WFA dirt race and their stud value gets a serious bump and opens up the US market. If they put Found in the Classic, then it is purely for sporting reasons, as they’re not likely to ever sell her or any of her offspring.

Regarding Found, would the race that is picked for her depend on the condition of the turf? I’m not sure if she has a preference for the ground being soft or firm.
I’d say no. She’s won on (European) good to firm and soft. When they go to California for the Breeders’ Cup, the expectation is always that the turf will be firm. It’s not like Keeneland or New York, ect where you’re not sure what the weather will do.

Wonder how predictable newly installed turf course will be?

http://www.drf.com/news/trainers-differ-shutting-down-santa-anitas-turf-course

Bermuda grass is a resilient tough often invasion grass that may well change the texture and feel from what was experienced on the previous course. European horse racing is probably unfamiliar with bermuda as it doesn’t survive in colder climates. Actually, in northern CA, it is not recommended for lawns. Also the firmness, or lack there of, may not be readily recognized on a newly installed turf course. One thing for sure, southern CA weather has been predictable. Drought!

This is the BC. Wouldn’t be surprised to see flash flood warnings up that weekend.

It should be noted that no Classic at Santa Anita in this century has been run on a wet track (2 were on all weather surfaces) and none of the BC Turfs (in CA) have been run on anything worse than good (and that was just one in the seven times it’s run on Cali tracks in the 2000s).

I believe the turf that was laid down was a variety of Bermuda called Bandera. Appears to wear well and also do well in shade (sounds like the 49ers have a No Cal sub variety of Bandera).

I had gotten the impression that trainers and jocks all liked the new surface but will for sure not be what the Europeans are used to. The “invasive” part may well be what is appealing for a race course

Yes, it can be very invasive and a major PITA to get rid of. It does not do well in cold so here in Phoenix, it is often winter overseen with rye.

Does anyone know if you can watch The Breeders Cup races online - and are they live?
At my temporary digs, there is no NBCSports Network, let alone any TVG. :frowning: So if I signed up w/ TwinSpires, do I automatically get their video, and do they broadcast all the races - live?
I work Mon-Sat and have to ask for time off ahead of time.
Thanks!

You get the simulcast feed through TwinSpires, so less pointless chitchat, more betting and horses.

In other news, Beholder and Lord Nelson will be retired after the Breeders Cup. LN 100% sure, Beholder less sure, from.what the article says, but I doubt she’ll be back in w017.

I know in the past for the “big” races (so maybe like the Classic) that TVG will broadcast right up to the end of the gate load and then talking heads until the race is finished. I’ve had to actually watch the race on NBC.

Don’t know if live streaming is the same through TwinSpires or not. Most of the undercard races you should be ok however. (Or so I assume.)

TwinSpires will show all the races live just with less commentary and none of the stories. But if your address is in New Jersey, I don’t think you can sign up.

I still think that the Distaff is the race of the weekend. You have the reigning 2yo, 3yo and older female champs in it. Plus four other Grade 1 winners and a G2 winner. And that’s just off the Breeders’ Cup contender page (that usually doesn’t have every single horse in a race).

If Frosted goes to the Dirt Mile instead of the Classic, I actually think the Classic might be the boringest of the week competition-wise if Chrome comes in on his A-Game.
Nooo! You’re nuts! I am super excited to watch Arrogate and California Chrome in the Classic. I don’t think there will be anything boring at all!

In addition to California Chrome and Arrogate, Nyquist loves California tracks and might step up. He won eight races in a row in California – has never lost a race here – and he’s won all three of his Santa Anita races: a maiden win, the Grade I Frontrunner stakes and the Grade II San Vicente Stakes. Although he didn’t do well in his last race, the Pennsylvania Derby, he will have had two months to get ready for the Classic. I wouldn’t rule him out at all.

Then, Found and Highland Reel are both intriguing. Who knows what depths they will have on a new surface?

Totally exciting.

In keeping with that, the ten-day weather.com forecast predicts 0% chance of rain on November 4th and 5th.

If you can’t get on Twinspires, then you should be able to watch on Calracing.com, where you can watch all Cali racing.
Also, breeders cup have streamed it on their website in the past. Both of those will have the track feed.

You should also be able to find an illicit stream of the NBCSn broadcast if you look around on sites like stream2watch.com and livestream.com etc.

Not nuts. Compared to the other fields, imo, the Classic is the least wide open. Highland Reel is going to the Turf so he won’t play a part in the Classic and I don’t think the current Nyquist is the Nyquist we saw this spring. Maybe he’ll prove me wrong but even if he runs to his top form, I don’t think it’s good enough to get near California Chrome.

I’m one of Found’s biggest fans and hope she does well but I’ve watched too many Galileos fail on dirt to get my hopes too high.

Will Calracing.com have it though? I tried to watch it on there two years ago and because of (I’m assuming) the television deal, they didn’t show the races live.

At least it’s not this weekend, although the rain prediction for tomorrow keeps jumping around. It’s now down to 50% where it was 80% yesterday.

A decent amount of trainers moved works to today with the rain forecast so they’re going to be cursing Mother Nature if it isn’t rain. Haha. (So will the people who had to get up early to cover the works)

I would suspect that some of the undercard races might be streamed but would not be surprised if the Classic is NBC (is it?) only.

Friday from 5p.m. ET on (first BC race is at 5:25 ET) is on NBCSN. Saturday from 2:30 to I’m guessing 8 is NBCSN then it moves to NBC at 8p.m. (so basically just the Classic unless they screw with post times between now and then).

Is Found absolutely 100% confirmed for the Classic? Because I can live with that. Happily I do know we’re in–Metaboss is a confirmed entry in the Turf. It’s exciting just to have an entry. I may not actually watch, though, because I’m superstitious AND I’d probably throw up.

Is Paid Up Subscriber heading for the Distaff? I haven’t seen anything one way or the other…

danceronice - congrats on Metaboss  Must be a great feeling to have a horse be confirmed for any of the BC races.
