Caution warranted?

I think we’re going into 2017 with the most competitive group of 3yos we’ve had in a few years. Classic Empire is good but he’s not a total standout like Pharoah and Nyquist looked coming into their respective years.

I’ve learned over the years to not count too heavily on a horse carrying over what he did as a 2y/o into his 3y/o year.
Time will tell just how deep the talent is in this current group.

From what I have been led to believe, a lot of 2 yos look really good because they are precocious (more mature) than other horses of the same age. But many of them lose their advantage as the other horses in their cohort catch up to them. What a horse can do as a two year old against other two year olds is rarely predictive of what they can do as a three year old against other 3 yos and older horses.
