2017 Triple Crown

News is saying AD and CC will not be in the Belmont.

The Boston Globe reported that “Kentucky Derby winner Classic Empire” would not be in the Belmont but is being pointed to the Haskell.

Wondered what they really meant. Papers really, really need some proofers or fact checkers!

This misinformation actually comes from the Associated Press which has been picked up and published by papers who has since ceased racing journalists, so The Washington Post, Boston Globe, et al … Add to it Classic Empire is cited as trained by Todd Pletcher.

There is a chance that Irish War Cry will run in the Belmont Stakes. He might like the distance and certainly will prefer a smaller field.

Classic Empire is out. Foot abscess.

Another one possibly out.

if Epicharis doesn’t race; I hope they keep him over here and find something at Saratoga to run in.

I’m super bummed about Epicharis.

On a side note, the level of transparency we have reached is insane.

it is, but everyone was catching on to the fact that he hasn’t been to the track in 2 days

Would hate to see Epicharis run with any type of soreness but was also looking forward to seeing him run Saturday…

WTOP:

WASHINGTON … Classic Empire was set to be the favorite in the third leg of the Triple Crown, but he’s dealing with an abscess in his right front. (I don’t have a right front foot, but I’ve dealt with an abscess and boy, are they horribly painful. Godspeed to you, CE.)

Epicharis missed training again today and has been fitted with a glue on shoe. “Not and Abcess” but it does sound like a hoof bruise to me. He walked the shed row under a jockey today with Veterinarians watching on. How about job the horse and see if he’s sound, that’s the real test!

If they decide to run him tomorrow; I may be very upset over that decision. Horse hasn’t been outside of the shed row in 3 days and they’re going to make him run 1 1/2 on deep sand? I don’t think I agree. Save him and take him to TOGA

With that being said; you is everyone placing money on tomorrow? Your favorites and why? I am leaning towards #9 with Mike Smith up

Me? IWC or Senior Investment. Maybe Multiplier.

I would have been rooting for Epicharis but after this foot “thing”, I don’t think he’d be on any of my tickets. Given it isn’t an abscess, not comfy that he’d be sound and pain free by tomorrow afternoon. Having said that, he is a looker for sure

agree on Senior Investment. He was coming on in the Preakness; I think he will like the Belmont distance.

I put just a few bucks on Twisted Tom, Gormley, and Senior Investment.

But first, just to be a stupid newbie on the Twin Spires site, which I’m still getting used to, I accidentally bet on race 10 instead of race 11 and put a few bucks on Beach Patrol, World Approval, and Applicator. Oops. Maybe. Will decide after race 10 tomorrow whether I regret that mistake or not.

Eh, stirrups are overrated.

only caught the stretch run, but was sort of rooting for IWC anyway. Poo.

I was super impressed by Ortiz’s riding. That could have gotten ugly fast. I’m another who was rooting for IWC, but Tapwrit did finish with a lot of grit, so I can’t fault him for that.

Incredibly impressed by the jockey on Hollywood Handsome to stay on when run into and then to successfully get his horse out of it so as not to impede anyone else. Wow.

So what was the race like? I’ve been looking all over for results and can’t find any yet.

IWC got out quickly, lead most of the way, Tapwrit passed him in the stretch. Patch 3rd, Gormley 4th. Hollywood Handsome got run into badly in the first turn, and jockey managed to save the wreck, though he lost his stirrups and all chance from there.
