2018 WEG Discussion Thread

Thought I’d make a thread so we can discuss the rides.

So far Sönke Rothenberger leads with a 81.444% Carl Hester is in 2nd with 77.283%, Kasey Perry-Glass 3rd with 76.739%

Anyone catch these rides? I haven’t been able to watch while at work.

I saw Kasey’s. It was a tad conservative for her, so that says a lot! I will have to watch Sonke’s and Carl’s on replay as it was too early.

I am loving FEItv and being able to watch live when I can and replays of what I miss.

Charlotte is in five more rides and then the last group where we end with Verdades. I hope he shows them what he has! The US team has been phenomenal. I’ve seen some of Salvino’s rides in Europe and he looked way nicer here and like she could really go for it. I’ve seen Supenkasper before, but he was stunning. The ability of that horse to open up and be free is wonderful, and he’s the throw away score!

I’ve been keeping an eye on the live scoring at work but it seems to be down now.

I’m also really enjoying FEI TV! Great picture, better than usual commentary, not sure what’s going on with the background music ;).

While it looks highly likely Germany will get gold, it is SO SO close between US/SWE/GB for the next three spots - all have a total of 151 and change with one ride to go and one score already dropped.

Live team scores: http://www.longinestiming.com/#!/equ…tlist_D1T.html
(note that it’s a little hard to read rankings when some have 4 completed and some have 3 completed. After 3 completed rides, it was Ger-GB-US-Swe-Ned)

You’re right, the individual scores seem to be down now, although oddly are updating on the team score page. Brittany Fraser/All In had a 69.767%. Probably will land just short of qualifying for the GP Special (which means no Canadians in the individual events :frowning: ).

I just watched Charlotte go. It was lovely. I thought it looked like she got a little stuck on both passage to piaffe transitions, but I’m not watching it on FEI TV, I’m watching on a friend’s FB page. She is live streaming the rides on her cell phone, so as you can imagine, not the best picture!

I am relieved that it definitely was my choice of viewing platform that caused my misgivings. Charlotte got 77.7%!

Definitely struggled with the piaffe a bit. Canter seemed to lose power and get flat at times. She’s only been competing at GP for a year though. Very good ride overall.

Don’t want to get political but kind of rolling my eyes at the German guy competing for Palestine.

Isabelle Werth takes first with 84.752%. She was crying as she left the arena.

Standing ovation for Isabelle and Bella Rose! A beautiful ride! She burst into tears at the final halt - its so clear this horse is such a special horse to her, and no one thought the mare would make it back to this level (and be better than ever!).

Charlotte D’s Freestyle is absolutely lovely, but was sticky in all p/p and I think was overscored with 77%. Isabel had a good ride on Bella Rose who looked sounder than usual, but was overscored, also. Bella Rose’s p/p work is stunning, but her ext, trot is not an 8, she had issues in the half and back, and her initial halt and walk, which all clearly got over 8, which isn’t right.

Patrik Kittel just had a lovely ride and a personal best.

Agree, lovely ride for Patrick! I can’t believe Sweden is behind GB by about .2% combined between their three rides - a photo finish for sure. I have to say, it’s fun having so many top pairs and way more strong countries than usual!

Is it just me or did Verdades not really extend in those first two extended trots?

You are right. I think she was being conservative so she didn’t chance anything. Sublime passage walk and passage canter transitions. First two piaffes a little tricky, but the last p/p centerline was fabulous. 81% 2nd place, US gets silver.

Charlotte Bredhal’s? You mean Charlotte DuJardin?

Whoops! I’ll change that!

Freestyle is the youngest at 9 years old. So much more to come.

I know! SO exciting. She might be unbeatable by the Olympics. Suppenkasper and Rosie are also very young and very, very exciting to watch. What I like about all three of them is this their ability to just open up through their whole bodies and relax. These new types of horses coming up are something I really like. Looking like some amazing horses coming up in the Olympics.
