To be held 10th to 23rd September and coincides with my annual vacation, 
What’s the area like, are there other touristy things to do beside the WEG? What should the weather be like around that date?

The weather should be great in September. Of course, this year, it was still mid 80’s in the day time in September. There is Chimney Rock and Lake Lure within 20 minutes and Asheville is an hour away.
