2020 FEI Eventing Rules Revisions Approved

Eventing Nation posted a summary of the 2020 FEI Eventing rule changes here: https://eventingnation.com/from-frangibles-flag-rule-to-top-hats-heres-your-complete-abridged-guide-to-2020-fei-eventing-rule-revisions/?fbclid=IwAR3SGWOnO-e6r10ibAzAM3ZDVn6y2NSSb3ZE2P1TUHSacdWNx8vyne0LKL4

Some tack changes, the proposed flag rule revision was approved, frangibles, etc.

This one is in fence design:

Spread fences must not have an upright or vertical leading edge. The top of the front of the fence must be rounded or sloped. All other fences, including gates and fences using square and/or sawn materials, must not have any sharp or square edges.

Does that mean no more of those giant flat tables?

Can someone explain to me what a wavy bit is?

Mullen mouth, like a happy mouth mullen mouth thats bumpy. It was disallowed last year and now back in guess. After I went through a year of hell trying to find a replacement bit for them only to be allowed again LOL

Thank you! I would not have associated that word with that style of mouthpiece. And I sympathize with the trials and tribulations of finding that mythical perfect setup that’s guaranteed to be legal for more than 48 hours!

Other than the flag rule change, the one that jumped out at me most was in 547.3.3 (water jumps), specifically:

“Water to water with a drop is not considered an appropriate obstacle question at any level.”

I guess that means the prelim water at Groton House can’t be used anymore as it currently is configured? Too bad, it was such an iconic fence at a great event.

eta unless the usef doesn’t adopt the FEI rule for non-FEi events.

Where in FEI-land have we seen the water-to-water drop question? I’m guessing there was a reason for that change…

I don’t think they have to. Groton House isn’t an FEI event and USEF/USEA have their own guidelines for course design. Unless USEF decides to adopt it, it should still be able to be used.
