2020 Pony Finals Canceled

I think limiting people to showing in their home region is a very reasonable step for USEF to take.

I personally think they don’t care. Way back in Feb/March I self quarantined and wore a mask. No one told me to I just did it. Now the military is on total lock down. We don’t get to see our families.

This isn’t directed at you Skydy, but I’m over it! I’m allowed to judge people traveling for a stupid horse show when I can’t even see my family. It’s totally messed up and I’m so tired of people being selfish.

You’re defending people who have and clearly took a post personally. If the “y’all” does t fit what are you worried about? Oh wait…

Definitely agreed.

And why can’t shows implement a check in procedure with some sort of “guest list” type thing; ONLY trainers/grooms/1 parent/riders (and of course other support/vendors/braiders) on that list, list is verified with show entries, or something like this.

I understand. I will never see either of my ill, elderly parents again. We had plans and plane tickets but no one in their right mind is taking the chance of infecting others right now.
The scientists are working very hard, but they need time to understand the virus’ effect on children and adults in the short not to mention the long term. It isn’t to much to ask for people to stop the Pony shows until there are at least some answers about how to best treat the ill and dying.

I keep thinking just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Like wow!

You would think that most people could connect the explosion of new cases to the relaxing of restrictions, but apparently not…

Well I’m not surprised because the defense is coming out of TX.

Anyway, I don’t think it’s right that people can’t see family, can’t be there for funerals but god forbid a damn horse show gets canceled, and people actually are defending their travel.

I truly don’t get it and I’m bitter right now.

It’s being said that the show barn that had people test positive for Covid 19; approximately 45 to 50 horses, left the show grounds today.

I sure hope that they are going to their own farm and not another horse show venue.
What is the protocol, CDC, State health department , and USEF protocol for quarantine requirements of a large group of people (barn) that may have been affected. Was everyone tested that might have had any type of contact, I. e, going into those barn aisles???

These are questions that need answers. It’s been said the whole barn left today. What does that mean? Left to go where??? They should all be quarantined and maybe they are, I sure hope so because it would be very, very disturbing if this group showed up at another horse show within the quarantine period.

There are not enough tests to test Essential personnel in many States. There is not enough contact tracing ability in most States. There are not enough ICU beds in which to take care of the seriously ill in some States. Doctors, nurses and lab techs are exhausted, do not have enough PPE and can’t keep on like this. Why are some people so unaware of what is happening right now?

Ok. So does that mean a barn can just pick up and love to another show venue??? We aren’t talking hospitals here and you have gone off the rails. There is plenty of testing going on in every state. Many people have the virus and never see an emergency room.

im asking a pretty simple question here. What is USEF policy here? What’s the SOP for how to handle a positive test (s) that happen in small or in this case, large barn.

Im pretty sure there are a lot of people that want to know. Is it just up to the “ barn” to police themselves??? What’s to stop them from going right to another show venue??? Just asking. Inquiring minds want to know

FWIW… in light of all the crap, I could give two less craps about a horse show.

There are people (not on this thread, mercifully) that seriously think that Covid is not real, that people aren’t actually dying from it, that disease XYZ is comparable or kills more people, and so on. This just rolled past on my Facebook feed, “Okay,my mom is 88, and I don’t think for one minute that she is going to die from Caronavirus. I think this is a blown out scam to scare everybody.”

I have been engaged in back and forth emails with USEF since the beginning of July. If you go to the USEF website you can read all about their COVID policies.

What it comes down to is that they take no responsibility for the transmission of the virus at their shows, however the “health and safety of our members is our priority”. Sorry, IMO if that were the case they would have cancelled the show.

Now that people have contracted the virus, they ask that members report their contacts with infected individuals to USEF, but do mention that contact tracing is really up to the heath department. They’ve abdicated any responsibility for attracting people to Kentucky from out of state by saying if you don’t want to risk it, don’t come, and if you do come you must follow the USEF rules and sign a release that holds USEF without blame.

Once off the show grounds USEF can blow it off. The predictable scenario, that a gathering of people from many states would most likely lead to the spread of the COVID virus, did not seem to trouble them enough to cancel the Pony Finals. Not until people with children had already made the bad decision to travel to Kentucky at the invitation of USEF, and the easily foreseeable spread of the virus had occurred, surprise! We have this last minute cancellation. Because how could they have known , right? :frowning:

In the long run this depends on their home state mandates

In the immediate moment this is all on the trainers integrity and concern of the kids health.
Bottom line goes straight to the parents who risked their kids for a horse show.

Here’s your sign…

You are more willing to absolve USEF for their terrible lack of leadership than I am.

Actually, the success of any State’s “mandate” in preventing the spread of the virus depends on the honesty and integrity of the individual, or entity, who is either sanctioning a horse show or is traveling to it and needs to abide by those mandates. People actually have to bother to educate themselves about the rules in the first place.

The responsibility and Integrity required to do the right thing, when people’s lives are at stake, seems to be sorely lacking, by so many.

It’s heartbreaking.

I’m sorry you lost both your parents. That’s hard.

I mean they probably won’t. Not to mention they allowed workers to COME sick while awaiting test results…

It’s barns like this that think they are above everyone, mostly cause USEF lets them get away with everything anyway. This is the second time a BNT has done this at a show. It’s ridiculous.

They weren’t isolated cases, there have been 5 total that came to light in 24 hours…

The attacks on posters who are following local and KY state recommendations, and were planning on following all show requirements are uncalled for. Travel is allowed, horse showing and eating in restaurants is currently allowed. Staying in hotels is allowed. It is ridiculous to shame someone who is doing things that are allowed, is wearing a mask, is following social distancing, etc.

If you don’t feel comfortable doing those things, then don’t, and people will respect your choice.
